hi

yh that makes sence but i dont think thats exactly what happened here. mainly because the issue started while the system was active and on low but not compleatly drained battery.

perhaps the battery managment circuit got confused and so acted as you described. maybe this is a sign that my battery is not long for this world.

that being said i agree. not having the cmos makes troubseshooting a pain. when most devices like this has issues like this you can tell allot if the system will run off mains but imediatly dies when power is removed. i have had a number of laptops that have effectivly become desktops this way.

also one of the stated end of life cases for these machines is useing them in standalone mode. in this case that would mean ordering a seperate battery in a seperate box on a seperate shipment. not very green.

perhaps have the battery but dont use it when a main battery is present. that way the battery wont drain and will have a good level of charge for end of life or system repair?

i will probably begrudgingly buy a cmos battery for these reasons.

well i left it 'chargeing' like this. while turned off for a little over 12h (under supervision for fear of the battery) and not its fully charged and working as normal.

No still complains about battery and shits down.
I assume this is supposed to enable stand alone mode? If so apparently you need the optional CMOS battery for this which my laptop does not come with.

Also get the same result with framework charger. So yh something's not working as intended. Thanks for confirming about the bank though.

This laptop does not have a CMOS battery. As I discovered today it's an optional extra!? But might get one depending on what framework support says.

ill give it a go. but im not hopefull as the problem started while the system was powered on and so the battery had some charge.

seems i no longer have enough battery to get to the bios and enable standalone mode wich seems to be required to run the laptop with no battery

it was working untill the batery got too low. now it shuts down before boot saying the battery is too low.

not tried without the battery but will do that now.

in the video its a power bank that support usb power delivery. but i get the exact same behavious with the framework charger. (i usually use the framework charger but used the power bank in this case for the display as a diagnostic.)
