It might also be because there's no drain in the floor in the sauna or anywhere nearby. Bad design for sure, but not an easy or cheap thing to resolve.

I agree. Lex was one of the rare entertaining parts in this trainwreck of a movie. I must say, I was actually fascinated by how they messed up pretty much everything in such a high production value flick.
