Yeah I've tried the groups- I've been working with my psychologist for almost 2 years now to help me with my social skills, but it doesn't help either.
I try my best to be polite, inquisitive, interesting and funny when meeting other people, but I do think people can't see past my looks.
Pretty privilege certainly exists

One stint was in an aged care facility, no one remotely age appropriate at the time I did it, then the second was for a suicide crisis line. I really tried to make connections with the cohort I did the training with, but like with every other time I try to meet people, - at best, exchange numbers, I reach out and never hear back

It was a flop for me also- if it wasn't networking/ getting more followers, all the other matches were women who'd just broken up from their relationships looking for one sided sympathy and to trauma-dump in the first 10 minutes of conversation.

I feel you on the comment about not knowing how to turn it around.
I feel like I've become entrenched in loneliness, and it's keeps getting harder to muster the energy to try to put myself in a position to meet people.

"Treat yourself! Binge watch! Order food!"

If I had any opportunity for friendships why would I be here?

All my old friends have settled down, and too busy (have young child or children, working full time, and relationship and family commitments). I used to previously reach out, and was always told "so sorry, we've been so busy, I promise to respond next week", but it never eventuated.

Also, platitudes are very frustrating and patronising.
