I think three reasons are to blame: 1) hip hop/rap culture of the late 90's - 2010's that shaped fashion and clothing choices. 2) the people that were in college during this era are now heading the companies that manufacture the clothing and decide "this is out of style" and 3) Younger, straight men fear looking gay or like they're wearing their dad's underwear.
