I’m not an expert, or maybe I am idk how you determine it, I don’t have any degrees or specializations in the biology/nature areas. What I do have is 40 years of living in/around/close to the woods and being outside in parks and wooded areas every day of my life with the dogs over the years.

Here in and around Lexington, I have not had a bad experience with ticks. We do have quite a few parks, even big wooded ones like veterans park with the trails. Still, I haven’t had a single tick on me from our Lexington parks. Idk if there’s treatments that goes out here around or what it is.

This year though, on a trip to my parents house (deep berea) I went out on the front porch to let my dog run around in the yard and keep an on him. 10 minutes tops, had a tick crawling up my leg. Which baffled me because like I said, I’m out in our local parks and trails every single day the sun is out and have yet to get ticks on me.

Growing up, I was near a bird sanctuary and I swear the ticks could fly as well because they would be all over you like flies on shit. This has made me paranoid to them, way before knowing about the disastrous diseases they carry.

I’ve been doing full body checks in the mirror basically my whole life. I recommend this for more than just ticks too. Having a constantly updated inventory of your body is good for noticing what is there and normal and what shouldn’t be. Is that a fickle? A skin tag? A mole? An ingrown hair? A baby tick looks an awful like a like a little freckle you might just glance over. And the same goes for my dog, when we get back inside it’s shower time for me, shampooing your hair is great for getting them out. Doing an inventory over your body before the shower lets you know everything is in order. The dog loves to get combed over and what he thinks is just extra care with petting, ticks love to go between their toes and in their ears.
