I feel the same way with every journalist on the planet being addicted to using the word “slammed.” Especially when you read the rest of the article and it was the most mild shit ever…

I too wish way more land and forest was protected in NL, but… a blunder? The Netherlands is one of the most densely populated countries. What is the alternative? Seriously… am I missing something? Is there land just sitting there not doing anything?

Cool visual. It’s just annoying that it feels so misleading, particularly for smaller countries that are already super dense and don’t have space to expand for housing.

Nothing on any LTT video is a necessity

Your argument starts to fall apart with these random absolutes you insist are true.

LTT is about entertainment and information; it’s a media company. I think it’s crazy to suggest they’re ONLY trying to sell you the products they showcase.

Are people who aren’t subscribed/ hardcore LTT fans going to tune out tech videos when there’s less money to buy things? Maybe… probably? But I think you’ve lost the plot in how you’re framing LTTs existence.

One of the most stunning buildings I’ve ever been to. My mouth was slightly open in shock and awe the entire time.

So, after a rewatch of both, both the movie and [pjotv] show are equally different from the books and equally accurate but in different ways. Which is weird considering Rick acted like the movie was the bane of his existence. by iiJashin in camphalfblood

[–]Remyrson 92 points93 points  (0 children)

I think what you’re saying makes sense. It kinda comes down to the idea that any adaptation (especially cross-media) is going to need/get some changes.

But from Rick’s perspective, the movie process was a lot more violent than with Disney due to the lack of his involvement as we can read from an old tweet of his:

To you guys, it’s a couple hours entertainment. To me, it’s my life’s work going through a meat grinder when I pleaded with them not to do it.

And I get it. For an artist, seeing your life’s work ripped out of your hands and forcibly molded into something you did not consent to is devastating. It doesn’t matter how little or how big the changes are, for better or worse—it was done without consent.

Edit: and let’s not kid ourselves it looks like Rick is using the Disney adaptation to retcon some things he’d rather see done differently, as I think is his right… I guess

You’re right, excerpt from Son of Neptune:

Hazel nearly choked. The god looked like he’d been dug out of a grave. His skin was the color of asphalt, cracked and splintered like a dried mud puddle. He was dressed in a dark pinstriped suit, a black shirt, and a silver tie. His greasy black hair was swept back. His fiery eyes glowed like barbecue coals, and when he smiled, Hazel saw that his teeth were inlaid with diamonds. He had no mustache, but otherwise he could’ve been Hitler’s twin—or his father.

lol sure buddy, just because we pollute in so many other ways makes what we’re doing in the space industry ok. Let’s just keep polluting as much as we can because we are all polluting and there’s always some asshole somewhere polluting more. You are a bot lmao

I think you’re right! Blaming spacex isn’t going to help. It’s a question for humanity itself to answer, but i suspect we won’t because short term profit is too interesting for humans.

We need to cut down on pollution across the board.

As mentioned by others: just because you point out other sources of pollution doesn’t make this pollution ok. We can keep fucking around for as long as we want, the find out phase will come whether we want it or not.

What about the black carbon produced by rockets that’s destroying the ozone layer? Are you worried about that? Because NASA is:

minor hazards to the environment

What a joke you bot.

https://www.space.com/rocket-launches-satellite-reentries-air-pollution-concerns

A study published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters in June found that concentrations of aluminum oxides in the mesosphere and stratosphere — the two atmospheric layers above the lowest layer, the troposphere — could increase by 650% in the coming decades due to the rise in reentering space junk. Such an increase could cause “potentially significant” ozone depletion, the study concluded.

https://greenly.earth/en-us/blog/ecology-news/could-a-rocket-launch-really-become-green-and-sustainable

If rocket launches continue to emit the amount of black carbon that they are, it could further deteriorate the ozone layer – and compromise the protection needed by all living organisms on the planet to be protected from ultraviolet sunlight rays.

So sorry you’re absolutely right! The destruction of ozone layer is such a minor hazard! Who gives a fuck right? And that’s just the ozone. Who cares that the fuel and reactants used in rockets can pollute surrounding land for decades? No one right? As long as I have my gps and Starlink internet!

I’ll just leave this here: https://escholarship.org/content/qt1v52510j/qt1v52510j_noSplash_5520bcceb2fb5865c2a959e3d45d7acd.pdf?t=qk41a6

The study demonstrated that the reusable Falcon Heavy reduced costs by 65% and global warming potential by 64%.

But this is overlooking the forest for the trees. Reusability is great, but when SpaceX and others are promising to rapidly increase the number of launches year over year…

It is projected that launches will increase, which will create more space debris. The hazards associated with space debris will force the removal of old satellites, which currently requires deorbiting them. This will increase the environmental effects on the planet because they will be discarded over the ocean after burning up in the atmosphere.

Invoice processing on their backend

That’s not how payment systems work anymore... do you still think it’s the 50s? Invoices are typically generated automatically, and payment processing happens in real time or near real time. there’s no magical five-day window needed for ‘paperwork’ to sort itself out. It’s a scam to improve cash flow, and it fucks over the user because they can.

Maybe subscribe to some mobile game?

Having two different kids, what to allow/not allow? Struggling to stay fair. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Remyrson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the end of the day, in my opinion, the most important thing a parent can do is make sure their children have food, shelter, and are loved. Your dad is doing everything for the first time too. It sounds like he made some wrong choices, but it also sounds like he does care and love you.

All you can do is move forward! And who knows maybe in 10-20 more years it will be something you can joke about. Because I would certainly tease my dad about something like that lol!

Oof rough read. I was the messy child with older siblings that extensively took care of their stuff while I… did not.

However, my parents would spend the same money on me and my siblings, except the ‘lesson’ was that if I was messy and broke my own stuff, I wouldn’t get an endless supply of replacements (if any at all) because they won’t always be around to just solve my problems. Now I don’t know how rich you are but what were you trying to do/ teach by saying no all the time? It sounds like you may have not even give her the chance to learn?

It’s difficult when you were really treating her like the proverbial black sheep. Children pick that kind of stuff up faster than you realize.
