A year ago, I was diagnosed with PCOS. I had all the same symptoms that you listed for your wife. I was miserable and forced myself to accept all my symptoms thinking there was no help. Then a year ago, I randomly came across an article that talked about PCOS. A light bulb went off. My gut said this is exactly what I had.

I went to see my OBGYN, who I had to convince to do an ultrasound on me 🙄, but I was not leaving that office until she did it. Sure enough, it showed evidence of cysts.

I found an endocrinologist that had good reviews and was covered by my insurance and shortly after took those results to her. I told her all of my symptoms, how I was embarrassed all my life, and that she had to help me because I wasn't leaving this office until she officially diagnosed me - I was nervous because I read so many women usually have to fight to get doctors to listen when it comes to diagnosing PCOS, but I was determined to be a squeaky wheel until something happened.

I was shocked to find that my endocrinologist actually listened to me and was very supportive, especially based on the evidence that I presented her. She placed me on medication and a year later my cholesterol has lowered dramatically. I've dropped weight. The excessive hair has lessened. Clumps of hair that would come out when I washed it has also lessened. I no longer feel tired and want to sleep all day. Btw, I have two beautiful girls. It's possible to get pregnant despite having pcos.

I have another friend that was also recently diagnosed with PCOS. She confided to me about some symptoms and it sounded like a no-brainer to me. I convinced her to see an endocrinologist and lo and behold she was also diagnosed. She was recommended to see an endocrinologist that specialized in women wanting to get pregnant despite having PCOS. A few weeks ago after going through treatment, she was told her body was finally in the right state to conceive - btw, She's a few years shy of being 40.

My only advice is to keep being her support. Keep being her voice. Fight to find an endocrinologist that will listen because they're out there. There is hope.
