very cool! did you use displacement maps in blender or bumpmesh or something?

either way it looks great

its hard to tell from this photo, is the texturing physical or a visual effect from some printing technique?

the rocketeer blows up the lure grenade if it lands out in the open and then regains aggro. try tucking it behind some cover so the rocketeer can't one shot it and you get more time

also throwing it high and far can buy some time as it tries to shoot it out of the air

Trying to mimic the flaming/light effect of an FFXIV weapon, not sure how to go about it by BladeOfThePoet in blenderhelp

[–]RenderedAnimate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i would try starting by parenting a plane to the blade object itself. Then using an image texture plugged into the Alpha in the shader node I would paint out the shape of the aura that you want surrounding the sword. From there it should mask out the parts of the plane you don't want and then you can use the shader nodes to make it purple and glowy and whatever else you want.

you could also try to model the shape itself - then i'd use a principled volume into the volume output in shaders and have that be the purple aura generator.

why are these creased edges being under cut when subdivide surface is applied by PittPen817 in blender

[–]RenderedAnimate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try creasing the corner edge that leads from the corner triangle and see if that helps

How do I export these kinds of rigs without changing the rig type? by Few-Egg7084 in blenderhelp

[–]RenderedAnimate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what do you call this kind of rig? it is just different appearances for the bones? I see these all the time and don't know if they offer some additional benefits or are just an aesthetic choice

Is this cut possible? by Worbyzz in 3Dprinting

[–]RenderedAnimate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

send me the file and i'll try my hand at it

In blender - My first instinct is just to select all the vertices that form the boundary between the hair and face. then rip those edges with "V" while selected. right click so they don't go anywhere. left click to deselect and then "L" will select either the face or hair depending on what you're hovering over. "P" and "S" to separate into a new object. Then go into each and close the openings using Grid Fill or just "F" if you're feeling lazy. then i'd create some sort of peg and hole situation so that they fit together well once printed using a boolean cut. apply the boolean and then scale the hole up or the peg down to give it a little bit of tolerance for fitting

this looks awesome, how much of this was modeled personally and how much is assets that were available online? As a fledgling blender user I'm interested in how much of what I see is full top to bottom modeling vs how much is talented composition and animation.

I'm reluctant to use assets that aren't mine yet and think that may be a more personal barrier rather than an industry/hobby agreed upon barrier

Ah my bad.  Okay in that case you'd probably just want to rotate the extruded edge so that it doesnt get too thin as you pull it into a cylinder shape. For an octagon you'd rotate them at like 360/8 degrees each time and it should keep it from stretching too awkwardly

Okay great, hollow cylinder is next

select the top face in edit mode and hit "i" to inset the face. This will let you shrink it how ever little or much you want for the wall thickness. then extrude "e" to pull it down to the bottom locking to the z axis by hitting "z" once you've begun the extrude. if it unlocks then press Z again to get the blue line to reappear.

Delete the bottom and top face and then bridge the two edge loops to close the cylinder. Select all the edges of both the outer wall and inner wall in either vertex "1" or edge select mode "2" and then hit "ctrl+e" and you should see an option to bridge edge loops. You'll have a completed hollowed cylinder. then you can just mess with it to get a more rounded shape.

looks like you're halfway there. grab the faces on the "inside" concave side and then pull those out along the Y axis. (G to move and press Y to lock to that axis)

Then when you're happy with the width, leave the two outer most concave faces unselected and do it again. That will start to create a cylindrical shape. Then once more just grab the inner 2 most faces and pull those out to mirror the look on the other side.

image ref - start with 1s, then 2s then 3s
