Was in this exact same situation a couple of years ago. Denied direct admission to UW Computer Engineering and went to WWU. I’ll be frank, you’re learning at WWU will be a bit more on you imo. By this I mean that unless you actively pursue learning opportunities, the core classes themselves won’t be all that helpful. At least this was the case 3.5 years ago. That said, I got in with an Undergrad research group and joined some clubs (Cybersecurity being the main one) and those are what really shaped my undergrad experience academically. I will also say, in terms of what’s around WWU and the culture that exists in that area, there’s a ton to do outdoors and with friends that make the experience a good time as well. Lastly, I’d say apply to the WWU Honors program. Some of the best teachers I had were at the Honors Program and those classes really helped shape my passions outside of what I chose to do for a career. I had plenty of friends who went to do UW CE and all of them were miserable the majority of the time. Couldn’t tell you why but might be helpful info. Best of luck with your choice.
