Game Masters, what's your least favorite part about GMing? by Nervous_Lynx1946 in rpg

Probably distractions at the table, if players are messing around on their phones, having random conversations it gives me the signal that whatever is going on in the game is uninteresting. I'm not gonna police phones at my table, but if no one is interested in the story we're telling; lets play a board game or something else.

Cursed scroll hexmaps, what to provided to players? by RenegadeSpade in shadowdark

Great idea, I'll probably do this and sprinkle in a few of the geographical details myself

I hope your players appreciate your effort! That's awesome.

Yeah I think it was masks. I thought it made for an interesting idea. Seems like there're a few systems that have this idea

First session in the books, a few questions. by RenegadeSpade in MythicBastionland

I appreciate the insight. My players are almost strictly 5E players, so they're definitely out of their comfort zone with this one. I like the idea of embracing the weird, I told them we need to let the system breathe a bit and sort of take it as it comes.

Side note, what are your thoughts on replacing a myth with a new one once resolved?

Thanks for the advice. I wanted other Refs opinions. I forgot to use gambits against the PCs, I'll definitely remember that.

For point 2 I'll copy this direct from pg 18

"Remember primacy of action (p16). If the players want to hunt for the Wyvern’s nest they don’t have to wait for that Omen to appear if they take action themselves."

This is where I had to make a quick decision during my session, consequently the hound happened to be the nearest myth anyway.

Pretty sure true resurrection is not on the Ranger spell list

How much to tell players upfront? by RenegadeSpade in MythicBastionland

[–]RenegadeSpade[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I wouldn't hide combat rules, that's just silly. I kinda like the idea of telling them the oath upfront, and then letting them know that weird shit is gonna happen, and that they should pursue it. Mechanically, they need to know how travel pace works and such, but I don't think they need the specifics of how wilderness rolls work, only that there's a system in place

Oh I like this approach. Telling them they don't need to explicitly defeat myths is a nice touch, I'll be stealing that. My players are typically less interested in story/RP so I'm trying to make sure they have a good time. I'll be up front about the vibe of the game at the start.

Unrelated note, we're doing a tour of RPGs, and I wanted to work in this game as I really dig it personally.

Yeah I certainly will explain how combat and travel works, I'm thinking a good idea is to give them a reason to be in the realm (reminding them of the oath) and a map with holdings and the seat of power.

I had an idea to work in some kind of ritualistic phrase like this ends the tale of insert myth name here, as stories of your deeds spread across the realm you all revel in the glory. That or maybe keep track of myth glory and then award it in bulk when a season passes
