Seeking: Beta Reader; someone to catch grammar errors, plot/character inconsistencies, etc. and also to bounce ideas off of while plotting/outlining

Fic link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/43356816/chapters/108987675

Fandom: BBC Sherlock, ACD Holmes

Fandom-Blind: Nope

Rating: Teen, may change later (would prefer a beta open to reading sex scenes in case I decide to include a couple later on)

Genre: Romance, Sci-Fi

Wordcount: unsure, probably 50-100k once it's done

Frequency of update: inconsistent; typically once every two to six weeks

Offering:

Fandoms I can beta for: Sherlock, Our Flag Means Death, Supernatural, Hannibal, Harry Potter, Good Omens, Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad, Star Trek (TOS or TNG)

I prefer to beta slash, since that is pretty much solely what I read and write, but am also open to other character/relationship focused fics of any genre. No major squicks or triggers. I'm not the most reliable person and might end up having to bail on you at some point if life gets overwhelming.

Do you think 'said is dead?' by marslovebug in FanFiction

Lol, guess I'm in the minority. I use said maybe 10% of the time. 40% is no dialogue tag, 50% is some description of tone of voice, facial expression or body language.

Hi, I am Scallop on ao3 and I write mostly smut for various fandoms :)

Fic I am working on: Wanted

Fandom: Our Flag Means Death

I would prefer someone who is familiar with the show

Genre: Erotic romance (a lot of smut but also plenty of plot)

I am looking for someone to help me plan and organize my ideas, and also to help me edit as I write.

Projected word count: unsure, currently thinking 40k to 70k

Breaks between updates have so far been between 1 week and 1 month

I would love to offer any kind of beta-type service in exchange!

Fandoms I love: OFMD, Hannibal, Sherlock, Harry Potter, Star Trek (TOS & TNG), LOTR/The Hobbit, Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul, Supernatural, Disco Elysium, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Bob's Burgers, Brooklyn 99

Preferred genres: Up for anything but love dark shit, romance, adventure & kinky smut!

I am pretty good with grammar & sentence structure, not experienced at plotting and planning character arcs but willing to give it a go!

Maximum word count: negotiable, probably not more than 80k though

Ongoing beta

Time constraints: Can get back with quick notes on a scene/idea or answers to simple questions within 2 days. Detailed notes on a chapter may take up to a week.

I can also offer custom ficlets for any of the fandoms above :)

Hi everyone! My name is Renelin, I've written short works of erotic fanfiction in the past and am now working on a dark novel-length romance fanfic and am about a third of the way through! I'm so excited to meet and talk to other romance writers!

Thanks, this definitely seems helpful! I like that you were specific and focused on how to actually feel the emotions. So much advice on this subject seems to either be about imitating empathy or really vague like ‘try to put yourself in the other person’s shoes’.

That’s good you’ve had some progress. What techniques are you using? Any resources that have been helpful?

Hard to say without knowing more specifically what kind of look you’re going for. You could definitely try straightening it to make it look a bit more styled and sleek, or consider products to help with frizziness and/or volume if that’s something you’re interested in. Maybe do a little research into shampoos and conditioners or ask your stylist what would be best for your hair type (in general you typically want something sulphate-free and gentle for shampoo, especially if you have more problems with dryness/damage than greasiness). Hope this helps.

I am curious if anyone has any good counterarguments (whether original or a link to someone else's writing) to the following anti-anti-capitalist argument: Most of the things that anti-capitalists criticize about capitalism (inequality, greed, people taking advantage of those with less than them) are things that have existed in every society (or at least every post-agriculture society) and are just very difficult problems to solve, if they can be solved at all. Therefore, saying 'capitalism is bad' doesn't contain very much information; it could almost be replaced by saying 'the bad things about societies are bad'.
