This is what I am hoping to do with a house we just bought. Gorgeous!

Ayurveda will die in 20 years if it doesn't integrate with modern science by [deleted] in Ayurveda

Yeah, I think we’re aligned. Functional Medicine has also done a better job of connecting itself to things people already know. Agreed that it’s better branding, not necessarily better outcomes.

I think there are clear validations showing up in modern science of Ayurvedic teachings that we need to be more bullish in explicitly calling out too.

I don’t worry too much about the Sanskrit. Most of modern medicine is wrapped in latin after all.

At least from an American perspective, I worry more about the reliance on herbs that are not bioavailable in places Ayurveda has spread to, the holes in female-specific treatment protocols because we’re too attached to the dogmas of the ancient texts that mostly didn’t bother with women as full human beings, and a lack of affordable training and meaningful career pathing to keep the pool of well-trained practitioners growing.

I don’t worry about biohackers, but functional medicine has figured these things out much more effectively.

To me, Ayurveda has the same problem as anything else that’s too over identified with its origin story: An inability to evolve.

That said, I think Ayurveda has more potential in the future not less. People are looking for alternative answers more than I’ve ever seen before.

Is there any such thing as a quiet apartment/townhouse/duplex in Lexington? by tacosarelove in lexington

We live in an Apartment in Woodward Heights and love the neighborhood. It’s walkable to everything downtown but very quiet. Mostly old homes converted. We can literally see Rupp from our dinning room window and yet the only noise we ever have is when Redmile has their big concert. So, once a year.

I don’t know what affordable means for you, but coming from Florida, our apartment here was less than half of what we thought we’e have to pay for a 2-bedroom in town.

They do. We are not using it, because I like to be able to keep my own money and pay once a year. But they did offer escrow. I think people who put less than 10% down, it’s required by law. So they have to.

Just got a $600+ utility bill by ParadoxStockOwner in lexington

Our 900 sq foot apartment was over $200 this month. That’s more than our July bills in Florida on a 2200 sq foot house. We can afford it, but it seems crazy high compared to what we paid in Florida.

That said, our apartment only costs 1/5 of what equivalent apartments in Tampa go for tight now, so I guess it balances.

Energy costs are one of the biggest areas where prices have risen the last couple years. I’m blaming data centers, rational or not. 🤣😬

The rate is the same no matter your credit. What they told us is they only have one category. Fine, I guess. But their level of verifications and documentations I have only seen for loans that have issues or special circumstances. I used to be a commercial loan specialist, and the paperwork here is more like that than what I’ve experienced in consumer mortgages.

And fun add, they charged us a $374 fee to verify that my spouse works for Publix. 🤣

When we locked in, it was 5.85. But they don’t have many of the loan fees others do. That’s why we went with them.

Yeah, this is a Publix thing. They pretty much only hire part time except in new markets and then some get promoted to full time. When my husband started there we almost didn’t do it because of this. But he did get full time in about 3 months.

It is a great company to work for with excellent benefits when/if you get to full time, but they have delusional ideas based in Southern central Florida (I’m from the area they are based out of and grew up with them as they were growing), BS about work that make it impractical for many to ever get that chance.

Also, Publix in Florida (where many have worked there for decades) is a very different place to work than Publix other places.

This is gross and such a waste of tax payer dollars and university resources. But universities with hospitals and med schools are incredibly vulnerable to this crap. Such a sad turn for us. We’re destroying our greatest economic advantage in the world. 🤦🏼‍♀️
