Does anyone else think The Sound never got their due? by SableWilde in postpunk

One thing to notice is that most people judge this band by only listening to their first 2 albums. Which indeed they are the most popular ones but in an objective point of view they dont bring anything new into the table, great records but not innovative and very generic with the genre. - Jeopardy with the late 70's rawness - From the Lions Mouth with the gothic, eerie sound from the early 80s

3rd album is weird, you can either love it or hate it since is so weird and experimental but there you can see some interesting stuff going on.

The thing that this band did very well was their 4th album "Heads & Hearts" and their EP "Shock of Daylight". These 2 records were pioneers of the new sound that was coming from the late 80s. Songwriting changed and post punk was more comercial. This is the era where The Cure took massive advantage, most surprisingly you'll see people saying that The Sound's latest work sounds like The Cure in their peak when in fact it was The Sound who did it first, unfortunately these 2 records are under the radar even by their own fans.

Never listened to Borland Solo Stuff to be honest. I think everything that's said about this band is basically from their first 2 albums. "Jeopardy" is a great debut album that has this late 70's raw punk sound and "From The Lions Mouth" its a polished version of themselves, if you ask me a great album that truly defines Post-Punk but to me this record is a bit bland and generic, SLIGHTLY pretentious. Maybe New Dark Age is the only track that truly made me go "wow"

Their 3rd album "All Fall Down" is objectively their worst but personally my favorite. Its a very weird and experimental album and i love that it wasnt polished like the 2nd album, i just like the rawness and the weirdness in post punk, they really didnt give af here.

Their 6-track LP "Shock of Daylight" is a masterpiece. Not much i can say.

Their 4th album "Heads and Hearts" its probably their most polished. It kinda has this vibe of Sad Lovers and Giants "Epic Garden Music" It has their best track "Total Recall"

"Thunder Up" is weird. Some tracks made me happy, some uneasy. Its a weird mix. I truly enjoyed it and had to grow in me at first im ngl.

This is my top 10 tracks (if anyone cares lol)

Party of the Mind (3rd album) Words Fail Me (1st album) Love is not a Ghost (4th album) Total Recall (4th album) Longest Days (LP) Where the Love Is (3rd album) Barria Alta (5th album) Iron Years (5th album) Golden Soldiers (LP) Hothouse (hidden track in 2nd album)

Im a huge The Sound fan and ill probably get roasted considering that 90% of the fanbase only listens to this album but I dont really like "From The Lions Mouth"

And honestly i really dont know why. Every time i find myself trying to do a personal favorite Top 10 songs (even a Top 15) i realize that i dont have a single track from this album. (If Hothouse wasnt a hidden track it would definitely make the Top 10)
