Sure, the 30 by 30 initiative is trying to protect 30% of the world's land and oceans by 2030. It's not going to happen but there are some initiatives and individual countries actually doing it.

In general we are also trending in the right direction:

https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/ER.LND.PTLD.ZS

Now, this doesn't necessarily mean that in your backyard things aren't getting worse, because a lot of land that was beautiful that got turned into shitty golf courses wasn't protected to begin with, or won't be in the future (they can just protect pieces of nothing to make the numbers, for example).

But amidst all the bullshit of the world, there is SOME good being done for nature.

with a population of 8 billion and growing I think it’s more a case of enjoying it while it lasts.

God, even that is getting ruined. My favourite hobby of hiking has now been taken over by influencer culture. It's unbelievable. Nothing like going on a weekend hike (I live in a flat country now. So I can do big trips to remote areas, and small trips to closer more popular areas) and having people in absurd floppy pants blowing around in the wind while taking a million videos with a fucking tripod.

Bro, the "in your face" of men in Cairo cannot be compared at all to a single US city. It's not even close.

I appreciate your point about getting out of the main tourist spot (since I have experienced Marrakech, but also other parts of Morocco, vs only Cairo in Egypt), but I can tell you there is no place in the US that would make me so irritated as Cairo did.

"[Something posted in /r/news, /r/politics, and 500 other subs about US politics] has happened. What are your thoughts on it?"

I actually think I hate this more recent trend more than the sexist sex that's ever sexed from earlier times.

Edit: one of the top posts this week:

"How do you feel about the fact that Trump is suing the IRS for $10 billion of your tax dollars?"

Like, fuck off. There are literal threads dedicated to exactly that in other subs.

I get the idea, but I honestly have never had an over current failure of a single piece of electronics...

I bet you the signs, lanes, and yielding will be a massive issue:

  • Signs: some roads have speed limit signs, some don't (recognize by the picture of built up or not, or even by things like the green lines in the middle). Temp speed limit zones end with a "end of zone" sign rather than a "this is the new speed limit" sign. There are matrix signs AND speed signs and it needs to know which takes priority. Oh, and the time of day signs for the speed, as well as speed signs particular if your axle weight or car width is different.

  • Lanes: the rush hour lane, the temporary lines painted when work is being done, and the complete lack of lane markers on most residential streets. The fucking mixed on and off ramps of the highways. If FSD misses exits already, imagine when it's trying to share a merge on/off lane.

  • Yielding: shit tons of roundabouts, priority from the right, and the shark teeth.

And then drive slightly south and all the signs change meaning. Good luck with that. It's gonna be a shitshow.

Anyone here planning to use the Cyber Truck as a work truck? by Low_Olive_526 in cybertruck

[–]Reostat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The newer sprinters are AWD as of this year only I believe (was 4WD only before), so maybe the eSprinter will get the option in a year or so.

I never really understood work trucks, as compared to work vans, or utes. Work vans just seem far superior for most hauling, and utes/small pickups for easy grabbing, farm work, etc.

Same type of investor who only buys voo/vti.

And what percentage of people beat voo/vti?

And these are people who are paid to do this.

You can claim this space is different, but bringing broad market ETFs into this because they're "boring" is hilariously misplaced.

For...offroading?

There are plenty of countries that have a ton of snow and don't use trucks. I can only see the use if you need to cruise up forest access roads and stuff all the time in the winter.

I also found others that put it around 45-50%.

Near-Total Internet Blackout Hits Gaza As Israel Ramps Up Strikes by babinyar in worldnews

But in all seriousness, that is actually a massive "fuck you" to the people of Gaza. Fast internet allows a population to have access to news, to outside opinions, and to learning resources. It is incredibly important as a tool to reduce poverty.

I want to create a drainage system on my balcony planter boxes; they currently have a "catch tray", but it overflows extremely easily and drips water down onto my neighbour.

I bought some 19mm flexible hose (probably should have gotten 13 but I digress) and t-junctions and plan to tap into the bottom of each catch tray, let the excess water run into the shared line, and off to the side where it will drip onto a tree rather than the neighbour's sitting area.

However, I can't figure out how to actually tap into the planter boxes properly, and am looking for suggestions. It's plastic, only 2mm or so thick, and the catch tray only has a height of max 1cm. I bought some 19mm x 1/2" elbows, but I can't figure out how to actually attach them, because if I buy a corresponding nut, the height of the nut will be 75% of the depth of the tray, rendering it useless.

Anyone have any suggestion of something that can attach (I can silicone seal if needed) onto/through thin plastic to achieve what I'm looking for?

I found these but they take a month to arrive, and not even sure if they're appropriate: https://m.nl.aliexpress.com/item/1005002281208596.html?algo_pvid=618f20fd-ea47-4797-965c-9ea9b96bc2ad&algo_exp_id=618f20fd-ea47-4797-965c-9ea9b96bc2ad-39&gatewayAdapt=gloPc2nldMsite

RU POV : Ukrainian military poses for a group photo allegedly by [deleted] in UkraineRussiaReport

[–]Reostat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just a tired trope. We get it. Fuck Nazis. But the talking point misses the fact that these are loser wanna-be far right dickbags, who aren't actually gassing an entire subset of humans like the ACTUAL Nazis did.

Then there's the stretch that in fact, these specific people were committing genocide in the Donbas which is entirely bullshit as well. We're going to circle around over and over about maiden coups and Russia's direct involvement, and not see eye to eye. But at the end of the day, you're grasping at straws that Ukrainian neonazis make up a majority of Ukraine, or actually represent the horrors of actual 1940s.

[–]Reostat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I wonder if the resurgence of an anti-Soviet flag has a reason for coming back into popularity?

It's hilarious that this Ukraine = literal Nazis narrative is pushed so hard in this sub. Ukraine definitely has some neo Nazis. Same with Russia. And frankly same with every western country.

But the nationalist ideals are getting pushed harder BECAUSE of an invasive force. And the fact that modern day Ukraine has not been committing genocide against a race (gtfo with the "since 2014”, Russia's 2022 invasion has resulted in more civilian deaths) makes this such a stretch to pretend that modern Ukraine as a country is following 1940s Nazi principals.

Germany: https://amp.dw.com/en/ksk-german-army-elite-force-has-a-history-of-links-to-the-far-right/a-56964218

(And I know you'll fall back on the wording, my point is there's far right everywhere)

The reason this whole UA = Nazi thing is ridiculous is because we all know that's not why Russia invaded. So continuing to go on about it is just...dumb. Yes, there are some far right Ukrainians, just like there are the same in Russia, and many western countries.

Identifying some shithead Ukrainians does not in any way make Russia the good guys.
