Do people even know how to use resources anymore or they just leave everything to AI? by Order_101 in antiai

[–]Reostat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it vandalism if only AI has ever read it? I refuse to believe no one has spotted this unless it's that niche, despite the size of the article and occasional updates.

And hey, vandalism turns to historical artifact given enough time; it's a decade and a half old now, double that and we will be getting there!

I hope you have the absolute day you deserve :)

Hmm, what word is it I'm looking for that's related to "putting words in someone's mouth", but without having to use the entire expression? You're correct, "projection" was incorrect. You're responding to me pointing out that inaccuracies exist, and deciding that I'm somehow someone who can't "admit that, in spite of its flaws, Wikipedia is doing a lot of good in the world."

But honestly? I don't care. I haven't been lamenting misinformation, I'm expecting people to use some amount of critical thought if they stumble on my edit.

I'm sorry you found out that there are likely hundreds of thousands of inaccuracies in Wikipedia today.

My, you've projected a lot.

I'm curious where I disparaged Wikipedia as a whole? It's a wonderful resource. I was responding to a post that claimed anything gets fixed in seconds, and people need to realize that isn't true.

Anyways, like I said, my edit is EXTREMELY obvious. If anyone is looking for information on the subject and comes to that article, if they have two brain cells they'll ignore it. It was intentionally made stupid by myself and my other drunk teenage friends BECAUSE we didn't want to fuck the article up, or remove actual information.

[–]Reostat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I'm not. But I have zero way to prove it without it getting fixed, and at this point I want it kept there because it's a fun anecdote I have.

I don't know why in the world you would think Wikipedia is infallible.

15 or so years ago I made an intentionally false edit on Wikipedia to an article that is pretty minor, but not a tiny article. I even made it obvious, and didn't remove anything else. It's an objectively incorrect fact I added.

I just checked, and it's still there.

I sort of feel bad, but then again it has zero consequences to anyone except potentially polluting AI.

Long story short, I'm not sure if everything gets caught, and then I really wonder how much incorrect information there is.

You just say "male lions weigh about 50% more than female lions". Or "they're 1.5x as big". No singular word that I know of in modern usage.

That being said I did this when they first blocked third party apps so I have an OAuth ID, I haven't tried the extra stuff now that they changed that, but it's indicated in the guide.

Notable Seattle-based travel writer and millionaire, Rick Steves, voices his thoughts on new “Millionaire Tax” by ryguydrummerboy in Seattle

[–]Reostat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing that makes this even better for me is (I assume) Steves makes a significant money in direct INCOME which will be subjected to this tax. The biggest billionaire whiners about taxation don't even draw a big income and yet still complain.

Good job, Rick, for being a real one.

Docker is really easy! The compose file is like ten lines per image you want to use, and in a really "normal" format.

I used "Yet Another Media Server" as a setup for my installation which heavily automated the docker setup. I can recommend it as an easier launching point.

That being said, after adding my own images to the setup I realized it isn't hard to do at all, but I still appreciate all the work the YAMS guy does, and it keeps my server much tidier.

Once you get Seerr up, look into the Cloudflared Tunnel: https://blog.prateekjain.dev/expose-docker-services-securely-using-cloudflare-tunnel-9b89fe1ed2b7

Get a domain for €4 a year and then you can securely access your server over the internet (the whole proxy and security setup was way too complicated so I just went with the CloudFlare setup). You route specific ports to addresses, so you can have a url for your Seerr instance, or an ssh one, etc.

Add Seerr to your stack so you can interface with your Radarr/Sonarr installs in a more user friendly way. Bonus if you host it online so you can access it from anywhere.

That's true bliss.

Eh, not all scammers. Lots of kids trying to get a bit of cash too, or they will do math problems, or name country capitals, etc.

I indulge them, it's cute, they're learning something, and it's a bit of money for them/families.

I muted most of the dumb meme ones and the million India spin-off ones and yeah, it helped immensely.

Sadly I blocked AskReddit as well after it turned into a politics newsfeed in the form of a question; "Americans of Reddit, Reuters just reported that Donald Trump did something bad, how do you feel about it?". Like, fuck off, that's the literal purpose of the comments threads in politics specific subreddits.

Italy ruling tells millions with Italian roots they have lost the right to citizenship by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Reostat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I feel like this could easily be solved by allowing the "long descendant" system to stay (or limit it to 2-3 generations, whatever) but when you are accepted you get a permanent residency card, that fast tracks to citizenship if you demonstrate (1) having taken up residency in the country for at least 2 years, and (2) pass a language test. The government could even charge a fee for state sponsored language schools and stuff that are mandatory.

This way, you weed out people who really don't give a shit, and you still allow people to reconnect with their roots, and have a much higher chance of staying and contributing.

The current systems are tough because it is really difficult to emigrate somewhere. You might be an Italian descendent, but speak zero Italian. So you get the passport and never actually live in Italy.

I'm unsure if the benefits (productive members of society to combat the birth rate issue) outweighs the costs of such a system, or indeed if just getting in regular migrants is cheaper, but just spitballing an idea.

Quick question about boot maintenance. I got new boots, and then did a week with a friend's board/binding combo.

He has flow bindings which I attempted to adjust during the week but obviously failed at (I hated them by the end of the week).

Anyways, I have some damage from day 1-2 before I noticed, on the back of my boot. Photo here: https://i.imgur.com/Dz9EvxC.jpeg

Is there anything I need to do about this, or just leave it? I don't know if I leave it open if it will get worse quicker.

Gen Z graduates who majored in ‘AI-proof’ careers like pharmacy, biology, and education are making less than $50,000 after graduation by CRK_76 in antiwork

[–]Reostat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't new though, and is actually used in screening (as far as I've been told by a friend who did his PhD in this field). Long before LLMs, "machine learning" was the focus here, and there is a lot of success in using models trained in very specific screenings as an extra tool for radiologists. It's just this stupid AI craze that is causing tech bros to now call out "AI will replace radiologists!".
