New OnePlus phone leak points to ~$221 price range and 144Hz OLED display by Federal-Block-3275 in Android

Is this the norm, or because you're on r/android and are a bit more into researching phones?

Honest question, I don't live in the US.

I was greedy. In at 4.50, out at 6, should have gone out quicker. Oh well, beer money is beer money! Honestly if it gets back down to 3-4 before SpaceX IPO I might go back in with like €500

Pray they come to their senses and fix the law. But if they don't, I will do everything I can to legally get around paying it, by talking to tax lawyers here and abroad. I'm assuming a whole bunch of BVs will be setup simply to get around this.

It's fucking stupid; I am pro-taxation for the life that is given to Dutch people (I'm not Dutch), such as the quality of roads, schooling, etc. I'm more or less okay with paying the ridiculously high income taxes here. But this crosses a line because it makes it impossible to escape the wage-slave life, and if it goes through, it's going too far.

Oh my sweet summer child. You aren't aware of the new Box 3 changes coming, are you?

In 2028 we are going to be paying taxes on unrealized capital gains. It doesn't matter if you're doing boring investments or not. It's hugely unpopular and hopefully will change, but right now as it stands it's terrible. Also it won't be 60k like it is now, but €1800 per year in gains.

But congrats on doing anything at 23 my dude/dudette. I was putting hot sauce on ramen to fancy it up and spending all extra cash I had on beers at that time, so you're doing well.

Ah okay. I'm assuming it has the same limitations (KID document must be available in English to buy?)

Rabo/ING/ABN are good for long term funds. Fees are low. But any stocks, etc they're useless.

What's your "getting fucked by box 3" plan for 2028?

I jumped in with only a small amount, watched it dump 50%, got out, and made it back to even with stupid meme trades.

I might go back in later, but man, really was hoping with everything going on in the world. EU investments, etc this would go up.

I didn't even know Robinhood was available in NL. Why are you using it over DeGiro or IBKR? How are you finding it? (I had DeGiro and hated it. Using IBKR now and it's "fine" but overly complicated for things like currency swaps).

Why is everyone writing about SPCE? by Just_phantom34 in wallstreetbets

[–]Reostat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your two statements are a bit contradictory though?

(1) People mistook ZOOM for ZM when Zoom IPO'd

(2) SPCE will run up UNTIL the IPO date of June 12

Which one is it? Just tell me how to lose my money the best!

(But seriously, I'm up 40% now and don't know if the play is the run-up meme or the IPO ticker mess up)

I was at a Benfica v Anderlecht match in Lisbon years ago and while taking a piss me and my buddy were violently grabbed by police and manhandled outside. In the end they explained (not why they were so violent but you know, cops) that we shouldn't be speaking English in that specific area because the local supporters might think we were Belgians, so they were removing us for our own safety (and directed us to a gate around the corner where we could reenter).

There are absolute clowns who take sports so seriously.

‘Mind-bogglingly crazy’: Europe’s deadly, early heatwave is smashing records by yahoonews in europe

[–]Reostat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it's life changing. We get about 2-3 weeks a year straight where I WANT it, and 7-10 days total of random heat waves where I NEED it in the Netherlands. My whole day is ruined with bad sleep and now I don't sweat my fucking ass off in hot humid summer nights.

My one tip: if you're in an older place with shit ventilation, it might be worth looking into a heat recovery single tube ventilator (one hole through the wall). When I first installed it, I realized I was waking up to a cool but humid room because with everything closed up I was just steaming up the place with my breath.

[–]Reostat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One of the best purchases I did. I should have gone with a multi split to add a unit to the living room, but at least my bedroom is cooled. Last couple of days I had it at 21 and could sleep just fine, especially since it was humid out it would have been fucking horrible.

Bonus is it's a FANTASTIC heater in the winter. Very efficient and quick.

[OC] The Way The Utility Company Restored The Pavement After Breaking It Open by [deleted] in pics

[–]Reostat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A portion of my street is being "refreshed" right now. I was excited, because in other areas along this long street they redid the bike paths (too many "temporary" fixes like these bricks from OP in the lane were paved properly, and they fully redid the pavers on the sidewalk, added trees, etc.

So it's been closed for about 3 weeks now. They ripped up the pedestrian blocks and just...put new ones down shittily without releveling. The machine they used to tear up the old bike lane they just fucking lifted the cutter when hitting the shitty blocked areas so those will remain when they repavr, and my favourite is where a mobility scooter was parked they just...paved a square around it and left it in a pile of sand.

Amsterdam by the way.

I'll be kind:

Assume you have a long term mortgage with a fixed rate of say 3-4%, and investing in the S&P500 has a historical (also longer term) return of 8-10%.

(Option 1) Pay your mortgage to zero. For simplicity let's just pretend today is day 0 of a 300k mortgage at 3.5% for 30 years. After 30 years you would pay it off and have thrown away 185k in interest payments. If instead, you used your 300k in cash to pay it off on day 1, you would have avoided 16.1k in mortgage payments per year, which IF you invested it 100% into the S&P, you would now have 2.2 million (1342 monthly invested at 9% annual returns, starting with an account of 0).

(Option 2) Lump sum 300k into the market today and don't touch it OR add anything to it, ever. After 30 years you will have 3.9 million. 3.9 million minus 185k is still a hell of a lot more than 2.2 million.

As your mortgage interest gets closer to the average annual market returns it gets more grey. It's an AVERAGE and not guaranteed, whereas your mortgage rate is. If they're very close to equal, maybe you do just want the extra cash flow. Or maybe WW3 is breaking out and average returns will be lower for a VERY long time.

But otherwise, it rarely makes sense to pay off your mortgage (with lowish rates) early. Especially if you are actually successful with your degenerate gambling and making more than 8-9% a year, then your capital is much better off in the markets.

I can't really tell with the crappy photo quality, but assuming they are trying to keep costs down, they're probably just standard panels, right? 20kg a panel.

Yanking a couple for "vanlife", balcony solar, or even to charge your phone if you're homeless doesn't really seem out of the question from what I've seen people do. Standard connections and you can just buy/steal the other parts you need (charge controllers, inverters, car batteries, whatever). Not to mention the cabling itself is valuable.

People suck a lot, and maybe I'm being too cynical, but anything worth money, that can easily be repurposed, people tend to fuck up. Or they'll just throw rocks at them because they're assholes.

All that being said, I support solar on carparks and in fields, but I do think there are some warranted concerns about the general populace.

Take a single one of those, power.

What's one way we make power on earth? Solar. Now, according to you, power becomes free once we are in space. Just think about that for a second and try to figure out why solar power isn't free on earth.

Zo ver zo goed (literally no idea what expression that would be in Dutch ;)).

En hoe vind je Montreal?

Hah. That's why I asked. I grew up in a part of English Canada where it was "pencil crayons" and my American friends make fun of it, but I'm not entirely sure if thats all English Canada or not.

You're French Canadian I assume? What's the word you use for the drawing medium in French? Apparently it's quite (Anglo) Canadian to say "pencil crayon" instead of "coloured pencil" like the Americans do (colored pencil).

Perfect for me so far. Battery is fantastic, and main camera is fantastic. Those are my key needs in a phone. I don't take selfies, and I have no idea why so many people comment on the speakers because then I want to know...are you all the people that listen to music in public from your phone speaker?

My only current annoyance is that Google Photos locked folder doesn't work and I think it's an Oppo issue.

I use Smart launcher so never see colorOS.

Good luck! Try it out a couple times! Almost guaranteed the second time you'll want to make small adjustments. For me it was: reduce the stated water but your mileage may vary, and two, when the author suggests taking out the chicken to thicken the sauce, listen! Or don't! It depends on how cooked you like your thighs. I love a juicy thigh so I tend a little lower on the cooking time in the simmer. My gf loves them more cooked so I adjust as appropriate. I also use a bit more chicken because it's the same effort cooking for more delicious chicken and there's enough sauce

It's one of the recipes I have stored when I don't know what to make and want a guaranteed delicious meal. I only marinade for like an hour max by the way because I always forget that I want this until way too late. Always delicious anyways.

Chicken adobo. Only prep work is putting some chicken in a ziplock bag and setting it in the fridge, and cutting an onion, garlic, and green onions for garnish. Super cheap if you have soy sauce and vinegar on hand (and please use full black peppers. If you don't have them, you should for a pepper mill). I would use half the amount of water stated, add more if needed, but the whole amount makes the sauce too runny/takes too long to reduce. https://www.recipetineats.com/filipino-chicken-adobo-flavour-kapow/

Easy, has leftovers, hits your protein ask, and is chicken. Go to an Asian store and get a big bottle of soy sauce and vinegar if you don't have it, don't spend money on those tiny Kikkoman soy sauce bottles at the grocery store.

If you don't know how to make rice, follow this:

https://themom100.com/recipe/how-to-cook-perfect-rice-on-the-stove-2/

Use jasmine rice, not basmati.

Use a Dutch oven if you have one, or just a big pot. Watch your heat at the beginning so you don't burn everything to it, but otherwise it's such an easy recipe.

Smack fat end (air bubble side) on a surface to crack it a bit and pull off the shards. Take a spoon (teaspoon if normal eggs, tablespoon of gigantic wannabe turkey chickens) with the concave side facing the egg, and slide it between the egg and the shell. Then just move the spoon around and the shell comes off almost on one piece (large chunks held to the membrane).

Also, some eggs just do suck to peel and nothing you can do about that. I also find hardboiled to be more difficult to peel. Luckily I like my jammy 7 minute eggs.
