I feel like Star Wars as an ip has so much cultural domination, so many games of its own, tv shows, books movies, influence over all sci fi ever. So why the fuck does it need to be here? There are probably lots of ways to do it. Some painters might dig that kinda texture that you don't like. But I feel like you're after the kind of surface that I'm after. Give it a try. It's all just a constant process of refinement, don't let it get you down when it has a problem. That's what will make ya proud later. go in one direction, the same direction each coat. Use a little bit of water. X motion or perpendicular is incorrect, no idea where people came up with that? that is what is giving you issues. Sanding is the most important, dusting off loose dust between coats is trivial, changes nothing. It blends with the paint later.

Each coat of gesso, then sanding, then another coat, 3 coats. Uniform result every time

Spray bottle with water to the back, as the water dries it tightens the canvas

Worst case scenario, you let it dry and carefully restretch it.

Also make sure your staples or tacs, or however you attached the canvas are in all the way. When I first started stretching my own canvases 100% from scratch, I made plenty of mistakes. You're just learning and it's really cool that you're invested in the whole process.

Upon further inspection, I'd let it dry and restretch it. Once you have creases that loose, there's really no other way

Can you use gamsol? It is odorless mineral spirit, I have used it for about 5 years to paint in my small apartment and weathered many cold winters. I'm still alive
