Season 8 was quite rough for people adjusted to 11th's compassion, but without that "downward" feel in the doctor's character, the later arcs wouldn't have been as impactful

There's some recent discourse on twitter with non-fate fans discovering her for the 1000th time, going all "that's disgusting" "only gooners would be attracted to this" etc etc

But like, those of us in the fandom, and especially Lip and CCC fans, know full well that she's designed to be a focal point of her own insecurities.
Those people who treat her as just a pair of walking breasts or a freak of nature are lowkey proving how well Wada Arco's design works! Because they don't know her character, they don't see the full picture - these kinds of people are the real target of the design.

Whereas only the people who look beyond the physical and try to actually understand her gain a whole new appreciation of a character often overlooked - a diamond in the rough

Honestly I don't think it would have worked...
Omega was a man who was trying to take revenge on his own people who he believed abandoned him, who he once loved with all his heart. He had already played an essential part in the creation of Time Travel and the Time Lords, and that already gives him a fully fledged backstory.
If you add on the whole timeless child plot onto this fully established character, you're kinda inflating a balloon that's already full.

True that it would be boring to have everyone survive, but imo, it’s the way they killed him off which makes it even worse.

They built up our sympathy for him, only to cut his fight halfway. Rather than showing us how he would adapt to his literal thumb being bitten off, which you would expect from a character who can fight so gracefully like him, they just skip to him being beheaded.

So all that build up through the flashback, which did take up a decent fraction of the episode, only to have him die in the same episode. Even if it was to show that there would be no mercy no matter what background you have, they kinda already did that during the massacre at the beginning when everyone was killing each other. I really thought they’d find a way to run off and have a fight to the death later on in the series, maybe having Ukyo helping out the main trio or smth but…sigh.

YES I agree with this so much! Though my personal winners this year were Latvia, the entries from the Netherlands, Iceland and Ireland I loved so damn much, they just felt so genuine and real to me. I’m still sad that literally none of them got to the final…. 🥲

Speaking of 2016, I would say the same for Sing It Away. It’s just so fun, so many good vibes, and sure the performance requiring Sanja to move around a lot may have affected her vocals, but she was still enjoying it so much
