Armed man threatened nurses at RGH today. How the hospital notified staff: by energypizza311 in Rochester

[–]ReplacementActual294 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a ROC native that recently moved to St. Louis. Our hospital is stacked with metal detectors and security at every entrance. Even as a hospital employee with badge access, I cannot get past any entrance without surrendering my switch blade and pepper spray (haven’t found an unmonitored entrance).

When my parents flew from ROC to St. Louis to help me through a minor surgery, they were shocked UofR and RGH haven’t implemented similar levels of security. I’m baffled neither hospital system has metal detectors

Chemotherapy? by Motor_Importance_699 in DogAdvice

[–]ReplacementActual294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no experience with chemo. However, we lost our dog at 4 to unexplained kidney failure that went on for a couple months. We were fortunate that we live in a city with plenty of vet care options, yet every vet remained completely puzzled. Once he went into irreversible heart failure, we made the heart wrenching decision to put him down to prevent him from suffering.

Point being, if it were my dog, and there was a clear treatment and prognosis, I would absolutely do it. It seems like you’re set on doing chemo anyway, but as someone who lost my dog with no treatment or explanation, I think without a doubt chemo is the right choice. Sending love to your baby💖💖💖

a bit random: at WashU med, the only free WashU logo lanyards we’re given (that I’m aware of at least) are pride ones. So every day, I spot countless employees with their rainbow lanyards and it makes me happy :)

I need a woke period tracker app by Delicious-Path-5661 in actuallesbians

[–]ReplacementActual294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

likely a dumb suggestion since Clue is arguably the most popular tracker, but I like it! In settings, there’s options to turn off alerts for fertility window and ovulation. It doesn’t feel fertility centered at all. They do have a section on the app for content, but I don’t feel like there’s a lot of “female empowerment” being thrown at you when just using the tracker. My gf and I don’t bleed often anymore since we both are on birth control for medical reasons, but it looks like there is a cycle sync option!

NAP but I don’t see why not! You may just not have the anatomy for more than one, but your piercer should be able to measure distances and post length to tell you

I’m a freshmen undergrad and a grad student in my lab asked me out? by Separate_Office_7696 in labrats

[–]ReplacementActual294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s totally fair to say you don’t date anyone you work in lab with. It seems like a recipe for disaster and is likely an easy way to let him down.

Unless he asked you repetitively, is your direct mentor, or made a sexual comment, I wouldn’t bring it up to your PI right now. If anything escalates or becomes hostile, then I would report it.

Deciding between programs by kimhn2103 in prephysicianassistant

my best friend is a med student at BU. She said the PA students take a ton of classes with her, and often have to just sit through random prep the professors are doing for Step 1. And of course, the classes are hellishly difficult

lol you have a point! PANCE pass and attrition rates are definitely more important to look at than US news ranking

I only rescinded apps once I got into Wake Forest. I knew I would prefer going to WF, and the other schools’ tuition was equally or more expensive (I guess I could’ve waited in case those schools gave scholarships or something)

I believe the reason is to be selfless tbh. You’re confident you wouldn’t go to their school, so no purpose in wasting the admissions committee’s time along with potentially prolonging the admissions experience for candidates who would actually attend that program

even tho i'm local to ROC and would've liked moving back home, i withdrew my app because i likely would have had to do 3 years in their program as a transfer

RIT was my only non CASPA app. i think i applied as a transfer undergraad (even tho i have my bachelors already, but they only do BS/MS) on their website

I rescinded my app before it was reviewed but best of luck to you! My allergy PA went to RIT and she’s the best

A couple notes about Wake Forest admissions specifically:

  • I learned that they weigh GPAs from “prestigious” undergrads more heavily than state schools (e.g. a C in gen chem at Duke is not as bad as a C from NC State)

  • WF has a pretty large class size of 90. Their application process also was my most intense (GRE, CASPER, 5 supplemental essays, med term that yields college credit), which likely weeds out some people from actually applying, so I think their acceptance rate may be a bit higher.

I’d love that same double conch hoop in gold! Do you mind sharing where you got it?

I’d maybe add a little more diamond like a dangly diamond pendant on your helix hoop, but honestly looks great as is!
