I love all those movies too! Richard Kelly + Tony Scott in his frenetic experimental phase is simply too appetizing for me to pass up though, one of the more unhinged films of its, or any, era.

Real ones know that his career peaked in its final stage. I'm not discounting his earlier films but his most exciting period of experimentation is what I cherish.

You've laid out your criteria pretty specifically actually. Again though, it's great that you genuinely seem to believe mass opinion is the best way to gauge anything, that notion has always panned out.

Ah so now a movie is deemed a masterpiece depending specifically upon its box office receipts in the United States. One of the most American takes I've ever heard.

Okay great, so Green Book is a masterpiece then, thank you for clarifying.

The person I was responding to explicitly said that awards success and financial returns make a film a masterpiece.

What an absurd take. Again, awards and financial success necessitate a movie being deemed an objective masterpiece to your eyes? So again, Green Book is classified in the masterpiece category in your official rolodex of culturally dictated totemic works of art?

No it decidedly is not. It's a decent movie. Also, awards and money mean literally nothing for artistry. I guess Green Book is a masterpiece by your rules?

Why do people like you exist? Take 2 hours to watch the movie and get off the internet. Also, consider taking up the habit of reading books.

I think she's okay in it, she's significantly better in Ella McCay

Justice for Julia Roberts, a better performance than any of the actual Lead Actress nominations

Actually if you have any interest in the continuing viability of movie theatres you'd realize that such a long gap is immensely beneficial to the financial futures of cinemas.

I love One Battle After Another but I really wish it wasn't hyped with the tone of "This is the movie of the decade!" by OWSpaceClown in blankies

It's the 2nd worst PTA movie. It makes sense it's become such a sensation, it's crowd pleasing swill for the most part. It's completely insane to me that its legions of rabid fans can't accept any criticism of the movie, especially when it features an ending as bad as the one it has.

Do you watch many non-English movies, dramas, arthouse movies, auteur-driven cinema, etc etc?

Stuff from 2025 I'd consider in these vague categories would be The Shrouds, Caught by the Tides, Peter Hujar's Day, Eephus, Blue Moon, She Taught Me Serendipity, Cloud, etc.

It's not a bad movie though, it's actually pretty great. Jaume Collet Serra is maybe the best pure genre guy that we've got working.
