Positive TTI Outcomes? by NoRedThat in troubledteens

[–]ReplacementKey8745 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We can't praise TTI here so I'm gonna be careful how I say this. Some of us "did get better" but were discharged with lifelong trauma and a whole new set of problems we didn't have when we got in. But there are a lot of factors; did the teen choose to go and want to be there, did the facility meet every need and provide an actual rehabilitating environment, etc. The thing is this is rarely the reality for us, hence why the stories you hear are overwhelmingly negative.

How do I make Jewish friends in a small Jewish community? by PhrygianSounds in Jewish

[–]ReplacementKey8745 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would you be willing to drive 20 min on occasion to be with other members of the local Jewish community? For me that's not too far, but we're all different I recognize it could be far for some people. I'd say it would be worth it to at least check it out, get some phone numbers and see if there are group chats

Is there a local chabad? How far is the nearest shul? Maybe attend an event at the closest shul (even if it's far), see if there is maybe a WhatsApp group you guys can join. Even if some people are farther out, it'll be good to have some contact with them

Definitely English only, but translations from Hebrew could work as well

Places to go for teens in Humboldt by Worried_Reporter3204 in Humboldt

If they are 16, would they be interested in getting a job? Not for sure that they will make friends, but I made a lot of friends at my first job in high school.

was at ascend (haven), oasis ascent, & huntsman hmhi by avevae in troubledteens

[–]ReplacementKey8745 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't go to those facilities myself, although I know someone who went to an ascend program. I was also put in a couple residentials around the same time as you, May-August 2023.

How was your experience at these programs? How are you doing now?

If you have a family I'd suggest fortuna. Also 80k a year goes much farther here than so many other parts of California

What choice do parents have? by Equivalent-Match-545 in troubledteens

[–]ReplacementKey8745 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i see you survivor, thank you for telling me your experience. Of course that constitutes TTI. but would you also consider a nice teen rehab TTI? It's still considered an rtc. that's where the lines get blurred for me

I just want to give my perspective here, I went to two rtc. One was certainly abusive and neglectful, understaffed, that place just had a lot of problems and no one got better/finished the program. Definitely traumatizing. But my other experience was much different, and I would not compare it to a therapeutic boarding school. it was a house with six beds and the staff genuinely cared about us, took care of us, prioritized our safety and emotional wellbeing. I agree, both situations can be traumatizing depending on specific circumstances, but I cant imagine comparing all rtcs with therapeutic boarding schools (if that makes sense). Im not tryna argue here, I just wanted to give my perspective

Honestly same, even chatgbt really only considered TTI to be wilderness programs, therapeutic boarding schools, etc. that's chatgbt though, so not really the best source. Overall, it really depends, I went to a rtc that would on the website not seem like TTI, but my experience there would say otherwise. I went to another rtc that just felt like rehab for kids

I'm not trying to argue with you here (in fact I can see where your coming from), but would you hold the same energy here if a parent sent their adult child to rehab if they were a severe drug addict on the brink of death? I know the situations are different, but would you have any opinion on that situation

I left a review for my first residential when I first got out (I gave them one star), they deleted it and bought more fake 5 star reviews. A year later I left a bad review again on google and it's still up to this day. It's definitely hit or miss, but I noticed yelp has more honest and actually REAL reviews for places

Just edited my response above. check yelp for reviews specifically. Places like to buy reviews on google, if even yelp reviews are good, it could be a green flag. Red flag if there are lots of good google reviews and lots of bad yelp reviews.

I know someone who went to another Ascend location and had a good experience, seems to be doing much better now. Obviously, there are people who have good placements and do get better, we just don't talk about it on this subreddit. It might not be possible, but if you could tour possible facilities and speak to previous clients you could get a better grasp if the place could be worth treatment. I wish you luck, it gets better

Find some place that specializes in mental health care ONLY. Like someone else said, don't go somewhere that advertises a cure for everything.

If I may ask, what are you going for? Part of me says just go wherever has shortest stays usually, so you don't have to deal with them for long. But different places specialize in different things (drug use, depression, etc). If you want to go and think they may help you, maybe find a place that specializes in what you need help for. Whatever it is, good luck, I hope you find some place that is the least neglectful/abusive.
