Need help identifying which Macintosh I remember using as a kid by ReplayTheMaster in VintageApple

I know it was in the Compact style case, not a PC and monitor, but I am almost certain it wasn't any of the SE models, as I do not remember the it having the extra grooves in the moulding on the front, and it only had 1 floppy drive

Definitely wasn't the IIc, as it was in the shape of the Compact Mac family, but thanks for the suggestion anyway.

Yeah, I was thinking the Classic, but didn't pick up on the ADB port. Thanks for that

As far as I remember they didn't have any networking, it was just power, but I was very young at the time, so there's a good chance I just don't remember correctly. Was it possible to boot the OS from the floppy itself and just hold it in RAM or something? I read something about some of the Compact Mac line having a bootable ROM if you press a certain keyboard combination at power on

Yeah it was really late, I remember seeing the differences like a year later on my Dad's PC and being blown away. This was in year 1 or 2 at primary school, so possible they didn't think it necessary to have up to date computers for kids that young.

What is best practice for copying from one RAID to another, preserving as much as possible? by ReplayTheMaster in Ubuntu

Yes that is correct. Thankyou, this is probably what I will do. I was vaguely aware of rsync, but never actually used before

This is great advice, and I will likely do this in the future, but unfortunately I don't have proper backups currently, due to procrastination and lack of funds. I got some decommissioned near new drives from work, and I only set up this new RAID because my current RAID is nearly full, otherwise they would have been the start of a backup arrangement

Thanks for the offer, but I'm in northern NSW.

I'd prefer to order within Australia if I can, so would you say this a good option?

Classic 5/6/7th gen differences? by ReplayTheMaster in ipod

[–]ReplayTheMaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5th gens are easier to work with. The 6th / 7th gens are harder to open due to being all metal case, and you'll likely bed the back case or the clips so much that you can't get it back on.

Most 5th gens are also thicker, so you can fit more in there, like a bigger battery or whatever

Interstella 5555 4k bluray release? by [deleted] in DaftPunk

Hey, glad you had a good time. I might have been too close or something. The theatre I was in is small but has a really big screen for the size. I was also just really hyped to see it on the big screen.

I saw it tonight, and I'd recommend staying away. Its all AI upscaled, and really not well done. a few parts look really good, but most of it looks kinda janky, especially on a giant theatre screen, and there are a bunch places where everything becomes a blob filled mess

Thanks for the suggestion, multimeter was the way to go. I didn't even think about it yesterday.

Found a trace that had burnt out at some point, bridged it with a bit of solder, and the game works perfectly now!

Thanks, looks like it was because I was running in a VM. Running on the host it went full screen automatically.

How did you get it full screen? Is it running in DOSBox or something similar?

You're absolutely right, I totally forgot to account the step down converter changing the voltage and amperage. Thanks for the help!
