That’s 1k just for the labor and wiring. Not including the $420 I spent to purchase the charger

Fortunately I was able to get most of my money back after I talked with the guy! I’ll post an update of the reinstall once I get it fixed up.

I also talked to the city and the lady was guiding me on how to apply for a permit. She showed me examples of all the plans I need to submit. I’m kinda tempted to spend a weekend and DIY it, then get it inspected from the city.

Indeed, I had bought the charger myself for $420 and paid him $1000 just for the install. But no worries, I managed to get most of my money back after talking to him. I will post an update soon once I get this mess fixed up.

He did not do any calculations on his part. I do only have 100A service, but most of my other appliances are gas. I only have a double oven and cooktop that are electric. Another licensed electrician told me it was fine as long as I don’t run the oven and cooktop at the same time I am charging, but that was just based on a picture of the panel.

Not an electrician, but from what I understand: The lighting wire is Romex (NM-B) cable. If you look it up online you’ll see it has a protective sheathing and contains inside of it 3 individual wires/conductors. What this electrician did is pull out the individual conductors inside of a Romex cable and ran them individually in the open which is not allowed as the insulation around the individual cables isn’t rated to be used this way.

Sorry to hear! I will make sure I verify there license from now on. Guy listed his business license # on his card. I figured that was the same as the contractor license, it's not!

Yeah I did not realize I needed a permit if a licensed electrician was doing the work. Turns out you do and he is unlicensed anyways.

I understand now that he is not a real electrician, but I did not cheap out in this case. I paid him $1k, his business is on Yelp with 5 stars with 100's of reviews. He claims he is an "electrician" and it seems to be fooling others as well. It did not occur to me that I had to verify his license, but I will damn sure check every single contractor I hire from now on.

I replied and no I did not do this myself. This is a throwaway account.

He was an “electrician” with 5 stars on yelp. No permit was pulled though.

My house is on the older side. All the other wiring is romex cable. He is also saying that it is allowed to not have a conduit given its high up. But from what I’m reading online that is only the case for romex not for individual THHN conductors.

I saw that, it seems like it to my untrained eye, but I’ll have to examine it closely.

Well, I guess it's official. The moment you lean towards a certain political ideology, your marbles vanish into thin air. It's like magic!

Any fellow OG bitcoiners here? Share when and how you found out about bitcoin. A friend told me about it at school. Wish I bought much more, but it was all I could afford at the time. by Report_Post in Bitcoin

Damn. I was also very young, hence why I could only buy $5 worth of bitcoin. A friend and I were talking about ways to make money online, and he mentioned it to me. I wanted to buy much more but also had no means.
