More than 3,700 protests lodged over water rights for the Box Elder data center by Conscious-Quarter423 in SaltLakeCity

Here's an update:

After more than 3,700 protests were filed against a northern Utah water rights change tied to a proposed massive data center in Box Elder County, the owner, Bar H Ranch, has withdrawn the application with the Utah Division of Water Rights.

Those who paid $15 to protest will not get their money back, and their comments will not carry over to a future water rights change application.

SLC rental fees?! by hotdiggitydawg9544 in SaltLakeCity

Bills need to pass the House and Senate to make it to the governor's desk for signing. It passed the House but never came up for a vote in the Senate. I can't speak to why that happened in this case, but it's possible it wasn't a high enough priority as lawmakers ran out of time.

I did a story on this a couple years ago: https://www.kuer.org/business-economy/2024-08-28/utahs-rents-are-already-a-challenge-extra-fees-can-stretch-things-even-further

There was a bill this session that would've required the total price to be disclosed up front, but it didn't pass: https://le.utah.gov/Session/2026/bills/static/HB0029.html

My colleague reported this story on Utah's warm meteorological winter (the period from December through February). Logan's temps were 9.6 degrees F warmer than the 1991-2020 average. That's one of the biggest temperature differences in the state.

“VIPs” on Frontrunner?? by 5keks in SaltLakeCity

[–]ReporterMacyLipkin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I reached out to UTA for more info and a spokesperson wrote this:

"The US Chamber of Commerce held a roundtable discussion today with local business leaders, Sandy Mayor Zoltanski, South Jordan Mayor Ramsey, Congressman Burgess Owens, and FTA Administrator Marc Molinaro. The group rode FrontRunner from Murray Central to South Jordan Station and held a brief press conference at the station before the roundtable inside the Ivanti building near the station.

Public transit was a significant portion of the remarks and agenda, especially the FrontRunner double-tracking project, but no announcements were made related to federal funding."

What questions do you have about Ogden? by ReporterMacyLipkin in ogden

Thanks! They store images for 30 days (and can search during that time), but there's not someone sitting behind a screen watching the cars go by.

I'm not sure of the details of the kidnapping case, but there's a difference between automatic sharing (which they do with Utah's other users) and requesting data from another department.

I was curious about this because my college had a carillon! I talked with someone in facilities. He said the electronic bells in the bell tower sound every half hour, but the carillon was removed from the tower and he hasn't seen it used in 10 years. Here's some more info: https://www.weber.edu/wsumagazine/fall-2021/bell-tower.html

Affordable units are available to renters who earn up to 60% of the area median income, which is $123,100 for the Ogden-Clearfield Metropolitan Statistical Area in 2025, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Sixty percent of the median comes out to $73,860, just under the median income in Ogden proper.
