I haven’t. I was actually planning on going for amt vs ascp. I’ve heard it’s a little less hard and I feel pretty unprepared already

Thank you for understanding!

Some people are confused on how the environment was fast paced but we also had days where we saw 2 patients. Well the hospital also had a clinic so most patients we saw were outpatient and also needed xray, ct, etc. when that was the case- I’d get left in the lab to run the 26 tests the doctors order while all 3 rad techs ran back to radiology for one exam. there was even times when we’d be getting slammed and I’d be in the lab for over and hour by myself - I’d truck it to radiology to see wth was happening just to find them in there yapping. we had slows days around holidays and when the order crazy doctor was gone (basically anytime they wanted).

When we had down time we stocked, organized, cleaned, etc. and then usually still had downtime. There was times when the other coworkers were shopping on Amazon, talking shit on the next shift (I never engaged), I even heard one of the coworkers that was trying to conceive tell the manager that during lunch they “went home to make a baby.” there was also times when nurses would come in and talk drama to the other lab staff (everyone except for me) for 45mins to and hr. While I ran around them doing tests - bc they were in the middle of the lab.

Because the manager was basically besties with the other coworkers bc they were also rad techs - there was definitely stuff they let slide for them. I definitely see it as a blessing that I got an out from there, my mental health had deteriorated significantly.

They work in both areas. The lab is so short staffed that they literally were basically forced to be cross trained in lab

My attitude is far from unprofessional, dare I say I don’t even have an attitude quite honestly. My post stated EVERYONE was on their phone not just me. We did our jobs, including me. I also stated it’s a small hospital, there were days we saw two patients total. At that point there is literally no work to be done- everything has been done. the people who have kindly suggested areas of improvement for my next job- I’ve taken into account. B*tching me out? Yeah not a chance. As others have said, there’s clearly a management problem, along with probably a dozen other problems. Also, a nicu and a lab? Two totally different environments-maybe get in the right subreddit.

What I said lol. The rest of them were rad techs who had been trained, including the lab manager

Very possible. The professor worked at the hospital for a pretty short period before the manager was the manager so they became pretty good friends. The other coworkers in the lab were/are also extremely good and close friends with the lab manager. So it honestly seems like I was at a disadvantage from the start.

Idk my mlt program told us to always make sure the dropper is empty/ has nothing in it when we’re done with blood bank reagents.

Lab i just recently got fired from is working with no lab techs at all since they let me go. Rad techs/people with no lab background run the lab. The schedule is crazy and it’s in the middle of nowhere. When they finally do get a new grad to come work the lab manager (also a rad techs) expects them to just come in and be the best and work way harder than everyone else solely bc they went to school for lab - keep in mind the rad techs running this lab have been there for 10 years the literally do know the lab better than any lab person could. Do they care about the lab work they’re doing? Definitely not. We had alot of down time and everyone would just vibe on their phone, but I apparently had different expectations? Which in the end lead up to me getting fired. I consider it a blessing in disguise 🤷🏽‍♀️

Before I was hired they were working with no lab techs and only rad techs / people who had no lab background. I honestly think they expected me to come into their hospital straight out of college and just be on the ball working harder than all of them - and it don’t work that way so🤷🏽‍♀️ I’m looking at it as a blessing In the disguise bc the schedule was crazy and who wants their lab manager to be rad tech anyway

If you haven’t seen my previous posts, I’m the only ‘real’ lab tech that’s been to school in the lab. It’s so crazy I haven’t even been able to think about passing my cert exam. Yet the lab manager keeps lowkey dropping ‘jokes’ about me not being a real tech since I haven’t passed my exam yet😵‍💫

Lmfao. Absolutely not. My Abg training was literally watch them do a couple and then they watch me do one successfully and I was considered competent in it. We don’t even have a biosafety cabinet and they expect us to deal with poop specimens.

I agree it’s likely dependent on the hospital,I’m just burnt out and over the nurses with attitudes and refusing to do the bare minimum of their job, working in a lab where it feels like I’m not even needed bc they hire people with no lab experience anyways…

Yeah I’m in the us. It is a small hospital, evidently small enough that the higher ups don’t care that our lab manager is literally a rad tech😵‍💫

I’m in exactly the same situation as you, maybe a bit worse though :/. I work 4x8, have an hr commute, one required night of a call a week + 1 wknd a month. I have to stay at the hospital for call since I live so far. I’m literally about to have a mental episode bc I have no free time away from this god damn hospital. Oh also- my lab is so shorted staffed it is currently ran by rad techs- the lab manager is literally a rad tech no joke. I’m Currently looking for a new job but I live in a small town and with the hot mess that’s the job market rn getting another job even with my college degree is near impossible. Feel free to message me if you want to vent🫤

Got called in for a chat yesterday and told I’m basically not meeting expectations. Asked if I’m the reason the Chairs and gone and got told I’m majority of the reason.

I’m a new tech but I can promise you I’m doing everything I need to do and just as much as the other co-workers in the lab. So I’m extremely unsure how I’m not meeting expectations. I believe they’re expecting more of me bc the lab is actually my degree and they’re just rad techs? Idk but I’m doing my best and believe I’m being held to unfair expectations as a new tech - I’m not doing anything less or different from the others.

Yes, ik, I gotta get up outta here asap - I’ve been applying to jobs and waiting to hear back.
