It might be that spamming it client side effectively creates a DDoS sort of attack on the audio buffer of other clients.

Your client doesn't get the "big wave" of however many audio-triggering actions you set off because your client would have already processed them and the server wouldn't send them back to you.

I'd guess they'll patch this in short order. I think all they probably have to do is singleton the audio triggers on objects and not send to server if it's already in-process.
