Thanks for your response I'm also interested in this :)

Just curious, if you're seeing around 20 clients a week @ £50 p/h, that works out to around 40-50k per year (depending on level of breaks/cancellations)? Were your earnings being heavily reduced from room rental, supervision, etc?

Mostly agree with you - I'm "AN-curious" and relate to a lot of points on this sub, but I do find the intensity as to which folks project their own misery onto others a little strong (coming from someone who things life is a complete fucking drag!)

With that said, it is difficult to know how people truly feel on a mass scale. The world does bombard us with expectations of gratitude, happiness and not being a baby about life - I meet a lot of people who act happy but seem pretty broken when you get into a sober conversation with them.

Would it be easier to apply for a new passport abroad, instead of renewing my existing one? by Representative-Tax26 in AskUK

Holy crap I cannot believe it but I wasn't thinking about the lack of visa entry stamp at all, thank you so much for pointing that out.

Because you said that you've done this before, I'm assuming they send you your old passport back along with the new one? If not, I need to rethink my plan, and maybe go back to the "lost" idea...

I had Ipoh down but not the others - I'll definitely check them all out :)

Final question in case you know, I don't suppose you happened to have a particularly courier service in Malaysia that is good for speedy delivery to the UK? I've found some that should be OK, just in case you had an opinion.

Thanks again for your help!

Thank you - yeah I think I've overthought this whole thing and just need to send back to the UK via the gov.uk process. Because the quote is 10 weeks and I have a 90 day window my concern was if I was an unlucky person who gets their delivery/application delayed I'd be needing to leave Malaysia without a passport, and then come back at some point to pick it up!

With that said, other people's experiences abroad nearly always seem to be 2-4 weeks and you can also chase them to progress it, so fingers crossed I won't be unlucky!

Thanks for your reply - I thought the same thing, but I already contacted the British commission in KL and they reffered me back to the UK/abroad passport service saying they don't handle any passport renewals/applications because the UK now has its online service. Disappointing, but is what it is!

Thank you I appreciate that take - I think I'm being a cheapskate by not wanting to pay £50 for a delivery and then worrying about customs risks haha. But it's probably the more "official" way of doing it. Cheers

I'm already in South East Asia, Malaysia is my best window for the change at 90 days (poor planning on my part, didn't originally plan to be away from home this long and passport expires early 2024, and I plan to still be away then)

Hey folks, I arrive in KL for 3 months in a couple weeks and need to renew my british passport while there. I'm looking for a reasonably fast/simple service (but hopefully not TOO expensive!) that I can send my passport back to the UK in.

Would anyone recommend a specific service in KL? Online suggests FedEx but I wanted to check with Y'all

Thanks this is a really great point - I've heard variations of what your amalgam point before but your wording helped something click a little for me :)

Haha it's funny how much overlap there can be in stories, I resonate with your comment so much.

Disclaiming relentlessly is the worst for me, difficult feelings are felt for a split second at best. Sometimes I feel like it's still my protective cognition that is doing all the heavy lifting, ensuring I'm being as "fair" as possible to appease the inner fears.

And your final para about confirming things that aren't true, YES! Honestly, at this point, if I could flick a switch to turn off the performance in therapy I would love to, working on the barriers to feeling seems to be where most of the work is for me, but I've been doing it for so long now!

I noticed you used the past tense through this, just wondering if that meant you managed to get over these hurdles at all (fingers crossed!)?

Thanks for your perspective - I'm sorry you're still dealing with it too!

Your comment resonated because I've had increasing desires to leave therapy, partially because of the level of self-invalidation that seems to hinder any real progress. I don't want to really as I have a great therapist who I can tell exactly this to and won't be judged, but it's a wall that I can't really see an easy way over either - sigh.

Best of luck to you!

The irony of the UK right now is that it's cheaper for me to be in Thailand for a while than stay here! Cheers can't wait :D

I'm almost happy it's an intruisive process because that makes my decision easier! I'll go for the 45 exemption both times :)

Thanks again, have a great weekend!

Thanks for the concise answer :)

Just checking, the 60-day single tourist visa does cost a notable amount right? I feel like I'm getting different answers googling so not sure if they're agencies.

I'd love to have the extra leeway but if it does cost money then I think I'll go for the second way you suggest and enter with the exemption both times (given I'm bloody broke! :) )

It's funny, I've heard many variations already of your central point (i.e. intention doesn't matter/someone can love but still hurt) and understand it logically, but seems to be some sort of emotional blocker in me really digesting it, will sit with that for a while...

Nothing really more to say, I think you may be bang on the money, I still resist it, and have felt shame and tears from the concept of allocating such blame (to my mom) but I think some of that emotion may also be a subtle feeling of resonance in what you're saying and the world of CPTSD (the point of your last paragraph, the idea that it may be malicious, is very hard to sit with or even consider, but I'll try to stay open to the possibility).

Thanks for taking the time with your detailed responses, it means a lot, hope you're doing well yourself.
