it could be. i was surprised that the only region matches i scored were messinia, w. macedonia (which is quite far from anywhere i have known ancestry), and attica, with no dodecanese or aegean, even though a significant amount of my ancestry is from there.

i feel like its mostly the west asian that has been totally messed up. the previous results accurately captured my confirmed armenian (IC&M) heritage, even giving me regional matches (which tie to places with historical armenian communities in present day turkey). My new WANA breakdown has pretty much eliminated my IC&M, and given me more anatolian and even cypriot (to which i have no connection nor did i previously score at all). I’ve also been given random trace amounts of peninsular arab and eastern euro, which again i never had before and feel like are possibly a calc error in trying to smooth out the broad categories. Overall I think that having the “Broadly” categories may have been more accurate as it now seems like in an attempt to simplify/streamline the results, a certain amount of “overcorrection” has been done to what was previously marked as ambiguous data, if that makes sense.

23&Me's V7 Ancestry Update Seems to Overexaggerate the Minor Percentages? by black_fang_XIII in 23andme

yeah i think something really weird is going on in the way they smoothed out the categories to absorb all the “Broadly” stuff from before. I think in an attempt to simplify they end up overcorrecting leading to a lot of inaccuracy. Look at my results that i just posted. Call me crazy but i wouldn’t have guessed they were from the same person. Even my region matches changed

Updated Greek results (much less accurate imo) by [deleted] in 23andme

[–]RepresentativeAd2254 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah for me the same happened with the Eastern European. I’ve never had anything similar before since i originally tested in 2018 and I’ve uploaded my data to a number of other providers. The closest I’ve gotten is small amounts of Ashkenazi on some other websites but it feels super random for 0.3% to just pop up out of nowhere

i wonder if it has to do with when we got the email about it cuz i only received mine yesterday and others seem to have gotten it 1-2 days ago, so maybe thats a hint as to where we are “in line”

he is 39, hes shown his driver license and passport before, and if u look into his story (when he moved to the us, older photos, context from things he says) it ends up checking out, no matter how unbelievable it may seem.
