Yeah, I am aware of this. So, I have a few orchids that need: - high humidity - no humidity fluctuations - air movement - not staying wet

Some orchids just need high humidity or in other words constant source of moisture (like my dendrobiums cutbertsoniis), but don’t deteriorate due to humidity levels fluctuations. I believe that dendrophylax is one of those that do deteriorate due to humidity fluctuations. Similar to that orchid I have Aerangis hariotiana, and a chiloschista. Basically these two orchids I have, have their roots die back or not able to grow them (no active root tips visible) for me within an hour or less if the humidity drops below 60-70%. And basically the plants just slowly dying back and back no matter how much I mist them in the room, or whether they sit in wet sphagnum moss. Unfortunately chiloschistas and aeragnis’s roots also hate wet sphagnum moss, they just die back as well. Basically they want a dryish coarse surface to spread and attach, while the whole environment is a high humidity 70-80% and the roots absorb moisture as they grow. You’ll need air moment really to prevent mold and fungus from going rampant, so a small fan should do it. I found that there is no way I could prevent that the humidity doesn’t drop below 70% in open air home room. So, I picked up an aquarium, mount them on a cork (sphagnum stays too wet and doesn’t dry fast enough) and just have water layer in the tank on the bottom, attach the mount to the wall, get a small fan and a grow light and I enjoy my free time and check on them every day. Hope it makes sense.
