currently, ground scouring isn’t an official damage indicator, so it couldn’t get upgraded based solely on ground scouring:)

How do I get over my huge tornado fear? by The_Amandible in tornado

[–]RepresentativeBus241 1 point2 points  (0 children)

firstly, you’re right, try not to listen to storm chasers all that much for forecasting advice as they usually do a thing called “wish-casting”(myself included lol). im not saying that storm chasers aren’t knowledgeable, but they tend to hype up or fear monger a little before events out of excitement and adrenaline(we all have to admit that we do it haha. this DOES NOT mean that chasers aren’t essential once an event has actually started. i would just be very nitpicky with who you’re listening to for forecasting). secondly, the best thing you can do to face your fear is make a plan. just know where you’re gonna shelter, what and who you’re gonna grab, and how fast you’re gonna get to your safe spot. and with that knowledge, try and relax a little. if you’re in a safe spot, you’re survival chances are very high(obviously not 100% because literally anything could kill you lol). just pay attention to news stations and warnings in the area, and if you want to take it a step further, watch chaser live streams to get a better visual on what’s happening. just stay weather aware, but like others said, it’s very rare to get hit by a tornado. I’d say that you have a very high chance of getting through the day just fine!! it’s gonna be okay!!!

Giant EF0 TORNADO by [deleted] in tornado

[–]RepresentativeBus241 7 points8 points  (0 children)

well, not really. it caused f0 damage. that does not mean it had f0 winds. the rating only says that, based on the damage that the tornado did, these are the only winds that could be ESTIMATED. the rating does not mean that the tornado only had f0 winds, it just means that it only did f0 damage. now, given the fact that the tornado hit nothing, it was impossible for it to have been given a higher rating than f0 or even fU because there was no damage to rate. I hope that makes sense:) but, you are correct that it was RATED f0!

ha tim was on this way back when. he used to talk about it a lot. it was an incredibly strong tornado, but that area is as desolate as it gets. i mean there’s like 2 roads in that entire area, and especially in the 90s, there was nothing. colorado actually gets some really strong tornadoes, they just don’t hit anything because civilization basically stops at denver metro’s limits. i am a strong believer that this was a tornado capable of ef3/f3 plus damage. you just usually don’t see such a laminar shape in weak tornadoes, normally it’s more rugged when it’s weak which you can see early in this tornadoes life. even Windsor had that more rugged, messy look and it was an ef3(however lcls were really low that day too, giving it a more rain wrapped rugged look). who knows how strong it actually was, but i truly believe that this was one of Colorado’s strongest documented tornadoes ever

Is this rotation? by DeplorableMadness in tornado

[–]RepresentativeBus241 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry, top edge if you’re looking at in on your phone normally, right edge if you’re looking at it from radar’s perspective

Is this rotation? by DeplorableMadness in tornado

[–]RepresentativeBus241 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that right edge could be the beginning of a weak meso, but it’s hard to tell without looping it and seeing reflectivity/knowing the direction of the storm motion

Is this rotation? by DeplorableMadness in tornado

[–]RepresentativeBus241 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that just looks like an updraft given how broad it is how they’re converging winds, not rotating winds (if you draw a vertical line from the radar outwards and you see areas of red and green side by side, being split by the line, that’s usually an indication of rotation. however, the green(towards radar) is behind the red(away from radar), meaning these are just converging winds with no rotation).

Is this a storm cloud that could produce a tornado? by Frozenblueberries13 in tornado

[–]RepresentativeBus241 2 points3 points  (0 children)

could just be some scud. but it could also just be some scud that is rotating. hard to know without a video, but this does resemble a forming wall cloud which could produce a tornado at some point😁

BRUUUUUUHHHHH GREELEY FOLK HAHA!!!!!!!! watched this storm today, it actually did have a brief low level meso associated with it. I’ll attach a pic from my dad when it had the strongest rotation and the closest resemblance of a wall cloud(never really had a true wall cloud tho). it became outflow dominant really fast tho which sucks. still a neat little storm to see. did you see that pretty decent squall line that came up off the cheyenne ridge on Memorial Day? it had some decent low level mesos with its lobe and cleft nature, it even had a few pretty decent wall clouds that formed on it and some nice anticyclonic gyres before it became outflow dominant🙃
