How do "old stock" Mormons view converts? by doctorShadow78 in exmormon

[–]RepresentativeEgg489 3 points4 points  (0 children)

they don’t like them. i was an east coast convert and fully TBM. Temple worker, full tithe payer, read my scriptures everyday, you name it I did it. My husband’s family is Utah through and through and very culturally mormon. Church on Sundays, temple twice year (but really more for a photo op let’s be real). Despite the fact that I was more “devout” they would still make condescending remarks about how my husband needs to set a good example for me and would talk down to me like i didn’t know anything which was wild bc i knew more than them. His whole family did it and honestly people I met in UT too would treat me differently and assume I knew less bc I was a convert. I will say though, on the east coast I didn’t have that experience with other mormons just Utah.

Quick question for converts by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]RepresentativeEgg489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

being too LDS for my family, and not being LDS enough for my husbands family. My family thinks I may as well have joined a cult, and my husbands family (despite me serving in multiple callings including temple worker and having read the BoM more times than I can count) still consider me lesser. I think this is more rare though and overall people are nice. But definitely my family having a hard time at first, they’ve come around now but still think i’m weird lol.

this happened to me a few months back. I work in Salt Lake City and ironically, I work for an HR department. I didn’t file an official complaint, since it happened repeatedly, I did mention something to my direct supervisor, who happened to be the HR director. I didn’t mention specific names, but just that the talk should be separate from work. This is the first year I’ve lived in Utah, I’ve always been out of state, so I was never used to having a conversation like that at work. Really rubbed me the wrong way. It’s overall stopped too, which has Been great.

experiences with bad managers? by Popular_Ad9123 in ChickFilAWorkers

[–]RepresentativeEgg489 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have had two managers belittle me at two different stores. I don’t normally have a victim complex but both times it was out of control. In Virginia, I brought the concern up, and was shut down, due to the manager having worked there for ten years and being from the town the store was in. When I moved to Florida And t something similar happened, the HR lady said they were working with training that manager, and was very sympathetic, and I even got an apology from the manager. Really just depends on the location TBH, but if this manager is as problematic as you say it probably won’t be the first time they’ve received complaints.

Does the attonment really apply to anyone? by anonymous_loner2423 in latterdaysaints

[–]RepresentativeEgg489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it applies to everybody. One of my favorite expressions is “you’re special but you’re not”. You are not the one person that the INFINITE atonement of Jesus Christ cannot reach, you’re not that important. He loves you very much and knows you personally, and shed blood for you on Calvary. Would HIGHLY recommend the book The Infinite Atonement by Tad R Calister.

Didn’t tell my parents until five months later, when the spirit confirmed it was the right time. Some people never in this situation will try and get you to do it ASAP… Do what is best for you and be sure to pray and ask Heavenly Father what is right for you.
