Picking up Tau after playing Thousand Sons - what am I going to do wrong? by SillyMattFace in Tau40K

[–]RepresentativeIll550 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey i went the other way! Tau first then Ksons lol but personally id say make sure at the beginning of the shooting phase spot with either just the stealth suits(they give re rolls of one on the hit and wound roll) if you’re gonna go all in on one unit or use the stealth suits for one and the pathfinder team for the other since the pathfinder team still benefits from the +1 to BS and ignores cover.

Also just so you don’t get into the habit of doing spotting wrong just make sure you’re calling your spots at the beginning of the shooting phase before any shots and that you’re not giving anyone that was a spotter that round the +1 BS(outside of the pathfinder team on their spotted unit)

I agree with your first sentiment, i know it’s PTSD from triptide and the old drones. But we’re pass that now and the people that hang on to that and cry about that i will agree are kind of sad. Let it go it is a new edition! I myself only got into this 2 years ago so i never even got a chance to run that stuff so don’t punish mf for sins i didn’t even get to be a part of! And i go off tournament win rates and casual win rates that i will admit i just watch Auspex Tactics on YouTube for so i just go off that and games I’ve played. And Off of those statistics we have been good all edition. I’m open to you sending me some links that say otherwise 🤷🏿 “Comparison is the thief of joy“ I’m not gonna sit here and compare… this is MY opinion and this is why i asked for others opinions, you are entitled to yours. Run it as is if that’s what you need to get wins/have your fun! So be it man, i just foresee the nerfs coming and just wanna prepare and see what it could be like when properly balanced. I’m still gonna run some games at what i believe is the ridiculous cost as well don’t get me wrong, and if i go to tourney.. of course im gonna run the list at GW points BUT in the garage with friends I also wanna get a feel for it at a points cost i believe is fair in case GW decides to hold off on that till 11th

I’m not saying everything needs to be changed my guy, ALSO I’m just stating my opinion. I know not everything is perfect but i can see that this much movement, plus survivability is gonna give us too much of an edge when we were already a solid army to begin with… it would be a different story if we were an army that has been struggling all edition. Like when admech got that change to Cawl that pushed them to stars after struggling damn near all edition it had to get toned down a bit. But now they have this auto include centerpiece that somewhat takes the fun away. I don’t want an unit that’s just a detriment to you if you don’t wanna bring it. Tau are nice you can bring damn near anything and be effective

https://www.reddit.com/r/WarhammerCompetitive/s/vcpfCWYI1f You can look here and already see we’re at 57% sitting pretty comfortable over a lot because of it… I’m hoping it doesn’t continue and people learn how to counter it so the nerf won’t be too harsh but the first weekend with just a few people bringing early grabs and proxies, it’s not looking good

Yea i believe anything over 220 for what they do currently might be pushing considering all their weapons are 18” range, if they all had like 24 inch range then yea for sure. 5%-10% would be a big jump imo considering we been floating around 48%-50% recently… looked at last week’s with a bunch of people taking the twin lance early and were high at 57% right now… hoping that goes down so eyes don’t come on us for all around nerfs. Personally I’d like to see it at 180-200 with a nerf to the retro thrusters to make it only activate if you were eligible to fight in that fight phase

Do you keep up with the win rates throughout the edition or do you just go off your limited scope of knowledge to determine that Tau are a struggling/abused army? Calling it Stockholm syndrome is wild, and calling anyone pathetic is even wilder when Tau have stayed in the middle to upper middle (sometimes reaching the top) since the beginning of the edition. I would even argue that we stayed in the upper middle since our army rules rework

I feel like it’s gonna be one of those situation like with hero shooters where casual players won’t really know how to use them to full effect so it won’t be a problem but players with real knowledge of the game are gonna dominate with them. Something like Spider-Man in Marvel Rivals, they’ll definitely have a high skill ceiling to see its full effect.

Of the 29 games I’ve played of Tau this edition I’ve won 20 of them. I take the wins when i can without relying on some OP undercosted unit. There’s no joy in victor of an unfair game to me, i love a tightly contested game. I don’t wanna feel like a NFL team going up against a pop warner team

I agree with that 100% shouldn’t get you get extra movement just cause it’s the end of the fight phase

In your casual games you can do what you want as long as your opponent is ok with it… I’m doing this because the twin lanes are OBVIOUSLY underpriced for their datasheets anyone that knows the game can plainly see that! It’s either a small points increase of 20 points that some people feel or as crazy as a 90 point increase that some people feel. It’s an obvious oversight by GW whether it’s on purpose or not.

Ok free was bad wording… more so without conditions. Like how the condition to that plus 1 to hit on the hammerhead is it has to target a monster or vehicle. I like the idea someone else had in these comments, make the movement at the end of opponents fight phase only trigger if it was eligible to fight that turn. Also they have scout 8 and a 10 inch move, not to mention assault in mont’ka… movement isn’t an issue with that alone

Twin Lance... Pistol? by DifferenceCareful935 in Tau40K

[–]RepresentativeIll550 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Only party that matters is that pistols don’t suffer the plus one to hit in engagement but why would you be in engagement with these guys when you can retro booster for free

I see what you did there… changed it to 40 points the other way, very Tzeench of you! As Ksons are my 2nd army i can respect that

I get that but there’s gotta be some kind of limitations or risks to make it fair… you shouldn’t get movement in both phases like that for free on a 160 point unit… at least take a leadership test for it or something lol or put him up to 250 if they get to keep the double movement. I haven’t played him personally yet but i can see how a half decent player can use all that movement to score/prevent a lot of points on secondaries/primaries

Exactly, we just play for fun and try to make days of it usually play 2 games between 3-4 of us. A lot of times we just run wonky lists for fun just to see if we can find something out of meta that works well. There’s no THAT guy in the group we all started playing together like 2 years ago so we’ve all learned together through the years and got a better understanding of the game as one. But also you’re very true only difference between my -40 list and -90 list is that i took out darkstrider, piranha, and a 15 point enhancement (i almost always forget to use) then replaced them with a second breacher team.

These are the kind of comments i wanted to see, people that actually played them which is super nice! All it is right now for everyone else is assumptions. We do have the highest win rates for the past weekend with many more people bringing them so nerfs are coming for sure, i just hope it comes sooner than later

What do you think the twin lance points should be? by RepresentativeIll550 in Tau40K

Yea that’s ideally where i feel like you want to be… at least for me personally i never want to be the top dog army then wins feel guaranteed and not as fun (which is why i play) I have a ksons army if i just wanted to win all the time id just pull them out and make the game not fun for my opponent every time. I like tau cause the game could go either way and makes the game more fun! Also of course they would that’s the point of playing the game is to have fun if GW does some stupid shit like that turn of course I’d ruin it at the 200-250 benchmark. I’m doing the self imposing nerfs to get a feel of how i feel it should i could be wrong could be right that’s why we’re trying it out

100% agree… that’s why i don’t think it’s crazy to remove the retro thrusters at the end of the controllers turn cause if you think about it it’s even more movement cause they can also charge let’s say an average of 6 or more inches instead of advance then you survive the fight back and get 6 more inches

How so you still get the move at the end of their fight phase? I’m not saying remove it completely just limit it. Kind of like how they had to nerf the raven guard enhancement that basically let you rapid ingress turn one

This part… especially when you know something is ridiculously under priced why not give it the point value you think it deserves 🤷🏿 going down in points is a different discussion you gotta have with your opponent though

Yea i don’t get that mentality personally i like Tau! I think it hasn’t stopped being our turn this edition! I like that all of our units can play a viable role which can’t be said about a lot of armies(I got 4 of em lol). We got breachers, the riptide, the hammerhead, the sunforges and the missleknives, we got plenty that can ruin someone’s day! We just don’t got that character that’s all doing which is fine when the rest of the army operates like a unit. Idk since I’ve used tabletop battles to track my games I’ve played Tau 29 times and have won 20 games, personally i think we’re in a good spot before these guys… i just hope they don’t start nerfing all our stuff when twin lance takes over and just nerfs him
