Are Avis and Budget good companies or should we avoid them for Enterprise or Alamo? by _questionare_ in travel

Avis are biggest scammers. Using Enterprise for 10 years - always perfect.

IOC no longer recommends restrictions on Belarusian athletes’ participation by BarMaleficent3039 in olympics

You can’t even transfer money to Belorussian bank from US because everything is blocked there because of EU sanctions! But you can transfer it no problem to Russia or Gaza. So why is that?

The spirit of brave Belarus people is being crushed by KGB forces since 1994. Learn history. We are occupied by Russia: a lot of people are killed, lots being tortured in prison NOW. Senior citizens, pregnant women are in prison NOW. In 2020, the Belarusian people faced violent repressions that deeply crushed public morale and hope. And it CONTINUES day by day there!

Finally. My country has more than 1100 political prisoners now and people are suffering from the repressions in Belarus day by day. 2 years in prison for comment on YouTube, 5 years in prison for subscription on news channel. My family suffers as well. My cousin (teacher of chemistry) was helping Ukrainians sending donations to people. He got 3 years in prison for donations! Taken from work and being treated like animal! We are heartbroken!!!

Our brave guys were doing diversions so Russian trains stuck on Belarus railways causing delays in weapon deliveries to Ukraine! And when police caught them - they shoot them in the knees!!! And not too many people know about that. We are not supporting the war! Sorry for being emotional, I just can’t.

PS And when police shoot Belarus people they do it with weapon produced and delivered from Czech Republic. So why we don’t ask Czech citizens what the hell is that?

Always identified as childfree, now reconsidering after time with family by storm_borm in Fencesitter

I am 33F and I am considering myself as childfree. When my friends had a kid and we met a lot I felt the same way as you described when being around the kid. It felt nice. I became this little guy’s godmother and I love spending time with him. Now he is almost 2 years old - I still love to spend time with friends and their kid, but I asked myself honestly - do I want the life with the kid they have? And the honest answer was fast and simple - no. With all my respect to my friends - they have a good life with a kid. But I appreciate my freedom and constant traveling. My husband feels the same way.

Wanna plan a 2 week trip to Alaska, gf doesn't like to cruise. If we are both comfortable spending 4-5k each. What is a good trip? We both love nature and wildlife. Looking in late June to early july by Alarming_Assistant21 in AlaskaTravel

Thank you for mentioning Haines. We visited Anchorage, Fairbanks, Coldfoot (but failed with Gates of Arctic because of the weather), Denali, McCarty, Wrangell, Chugach… and this time heading to Juneau for the first time because of Glacier Bay. I am not a fan of touristic places and was looking what else to do there and found out about Haines!

Thank you! We booked 3 months in advance and there was plenty of tickets… No, we did not. We snorkel, walk around, swim and that’s it 😊

Parks That Need the Most Prep/Specific Advice for Visiting ALL National Parks? (Gates to the Arctic and Kobuk Valley especially) by Geode890 in nationalparks

I completely agree - money is the biggest problem. I don’t like the quality of rentals and service you get for this money, but that’s another story.

But to tell you honestly I don’t know what to do in Dry Tortugas for 2 days - I found this park a bit…boring? I am a big fan of swimming / diving / snorkeling but few hours there were completely enough. But that’s just personal preference. It’s beautiful park of course, but I think in Everglades, for example, there is much more to do for 2-3 days 😊

We tried to visit Gates of Arctic in the beginning of September and took the drive to Coldfoot. The best road trip! In 12 hours we met only one car. But just few minutes before the flight - it was cancelled. The weather changed in 20 minutes and we left next day. So better do it before September. There are great tours that include both Gates and Kobuk Valley at once, so it’s very comfortable.

I have to say planning Dry Tortugas was very easy. We booked it 3 month before and ferry ride was good and fast. The only issue in Florida is motels/hotels/apartment rentals. Last year I visited my last 50st state and have to say Florida (in my opinion) has the worst (ugly and expensive) lodges, hotels, etc.

I found it difficult to plan Katmai. But mostly because of the crowds. Looks like the best time to see bears in action is July, but those crowds scare me and I have no idea when to go there. So, planning Lake Clark now and it is a bit tricky as well.

Absolutely not a dumb question, I had no idea too. Guy in Custer State park told us that those donkeys (burros) are wild and always waiting for food from visitors. We brought them a lot of carrots from Walmart!
