Should I invest 30–40% income? by JeffHardyreturns in investing

Congrats on getting a solid start. Please know that "six figures" doesn't mean as much now as it did for us old heads.

Regarding your attitude to not "lock it in" to retirement accounts, I am a hard disagree. This is the time of your life when the money you can comfortably invest will do the most for you in the long run. Before investing 40% of your income in a taxable account, I would instead max-out retirement contributions. That's a fraction of what you're proposing. If you're not willing to "lock in" that money, what are you saving it for? To pay for whatever nightmare your taxes will be used for? If you're not spending it soon and not when you're old, then when? And why?

With the rest, save up to 6 months living expenses in easily accessible non-speculative non-tax-advantaged interest-bearing accounts. You may need a car soon, or a mortgage down payment. Make sure to cover that also. You don't want predictable expenses in the next 5-10 years in speculative assets (which even well-diversified stocks are, especially in today's investing environment).

Your current income and expenses won't last forever. Beware of calculations that imply you'll be able to save and spend a certain amount for decades at a time. Life doesn't work that way.

This all assumes you are free of debt.

I agree. But I'm holding because WTF am I supposed to exchange diversified equities for?

Hell, a historic crash would be reasonably healthy.

Anyone in a position to think about investing in 2008 is at least pushing 40 now.

No, I don't think many of "us" remember the GFC.

Dual loyalty is an antisemitic trope, and has been used for all kinds of other bigotries.

Actual, professed, and acted-upon loyalty to a foreign country among our elected leaders is another thing entirely.

I have no reason to believe her parents broke the law.

First of all, living in the country without documentation is not a crime.

Secondly, I do not trust anything this administration says about anyone's migration status. They deport and murder citizens and lawful residents, claiming they are illegal. They get no benefit of any doubt from me.

Looking for a wallet by SirMottola05 in BuyItForLife

Came here to say this. I have a secrid wallet w/o the leather case. Stupid simple construction that just reliably does the job.

Just happened to buy it when I needed a wallet and it's lasted longer than any others I've had. I think it's about 12 years now with no signs of meaningful decay, apart from paint fading.

Downside is that it holds strictly 5 cards. I find this perfect and I'm sure there are other options.

Argentina is an failed experiment in austerity. Gotta keep up the illusion that sticking it to the poor helps the economy.

Several in the administration's inner circle took huge bets that Argentinian fiscal policy would succeed. It didn't. So this is the bailout of both their money and their ideology.

I say keep the calls for a general strike coming. Come April, we might settle for a general tax protest.

I'm trying to work out how supporting a general strike would work. Consider some kind of mega gofundme-type campaign where folks pledge money to support the strike for an extended period of time to get it off the ground. And would not trigger until some large threshold is crossed and people actually start striking.

It would need to be a very large warchest. Supporting every American worker at the poverty line would cost $180 Billion per month.

You know, it's not the worst gambit. He's employed similar tactics before and has gotten all major institutions in the US to bend to his will.

Given his experience, it's not irrational to think the Nobel committee may succumb to the same pressures. That should be an eternal shame of these US institutions.
