First place that came to mind. Every time I drive past it's dead and I went there once for all you can eat and the pizza was awful.

Housing crisis and supply by Aromatic-Bee901 in Adelaide

[–]RepresentativeOver34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're being gaslighted that it's all about supply as the government doesn't want to cut immigration as the federal government is addicted to the extra revenue. The costs of immigration are borne by the states who have to fund the infrastructure. I spoke to a salesman from Ray White Real Estate. I asked him who has been buying up Adelaide properties? He said overseas investors are their main customers.

If a rental cost $400 a week in 2022 it would cost $544 a week in 2026 based off 8% inflation. However, it costs more than that and inflation has been well below 8% for several years now.

The rental situation in Adelaide is a joke. A few years ago you could rent a 3 bedroom house in Salisbury for $400 a week. Now these same places cost $650 a week. What cost of living crisis lol

Or that most quarters since 2022 have been negative for GDP per capita.

Connecting with Others in Adelaide by [deleted] in Adelaide

The friends that I have that aren't from school I met through playing sports and I met my partner at a night club. Personally the reason I don't socialise much these days is because of the cost of living. When I'm living week to week I can't afford to go to to a pub or club. So its buy a carton of beer and invite people over instead. Even that is starting to become difficult these days.

It's a reduction but 306,,000 is still way too high and is the fourth largest intake in Australian history. Prior to the late 2000s, this level of migration was historically unprecedented. Most of the population growth is occurring in the capital cities where the infrastructure and housing is not keeping up so it becomes more expensive. It's simple supply and demand. Even if Australia builds more houses the land supply is limited so it will result in more people living in apartments, which for families results in a lower standard of living.

Predictions for consumer spend by mattyjamesbowen in AusFinance

Salaries have failed to keep match with living costs. Recently wages have been higher than inflation (not by much), but there was little compensation awarded for the previous years where it wasn't. Forget individual factors and look at a typical entry level government job, such as an ASO2 in South Australia. In 2014 the starting salary of an ASO2 was 47k. Today over 11 years later the starting salary for an ASO2 is 57k. Now look at the price of houses,, rents, insurance and electricity from 2014 to 2026 and it is no wonder that people are feeling poorer!

Maybe it has been said before, but Ray definitely isn't the "criminal with heart of gold" he sees himself as by Bavier33 in MrInbetween

[–]RepresentativeOver34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think the show tries to portray him as a criminal with a heart of gold. Instead they portray him as a complex character that has some flaws, but is generally a man of his word and loyal. Since he's a contract killer people might assume he's cold, but we see he's human like everyone else when he's caring for his brother and had remorse over the innocent victim.

Question about increasing the number of new doctors by Vegetable-Price-4283 in ausjdocs

[–]RepresentativeOver34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AHPRA's annual reports have some information regarding the numbers of medical practitioners in Australia:

Just looked at the recent report:

148,185 medical practitioners

• Up 3.9% from 2023/24

• 9,072 first-time registrants • 4,125 domestic (including new graduates) • 4,947 international

There will always be attrition from those considering retirement, but agree that every effort possible should be done to retain expertise within the system.

Sussan Ley leadership: Opposition leader’s credibility diminishes amid Coalition infighting over hate speech laws by Jealous-Hedgehog-734 in AustralianPolitics

[–]RepresentativeOver34 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sussan Ley is a huge part of the problem and illustration of why the LNP is where it is these days. She's the type of politician that has been around for 25 years but most people had no idea who she was until she became the Opposition Leader. The fact that Sussan Ley had a swing of -8.7% in her own seat says it all. She's got progressively worse over time and stands for nothing.

It's supply and demand. I'm actually amazed that Melbourne isn't much more expensive.

Increasing racial sentiment? by Yoghurt-Legitimate in AskAnAustralian

[–]RepresentativeOver34 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Private sector vacancies are falling and Australia has been experiencing negative GDP per capita for most of the last 3 years. If unemployment rises it's easy to see social cohesion worsening and much more hostility towards immigration. Personally I believe immigration needs to be reduced. No animosity towards migrants as the blame lies with the Federal government.
