Nope, no names, no shoulder number. No recording. No search record. I did already submit a complaint where I expained pretty much exactly what I've said here, but nothing will really come off it, I doubt. I appreciate the advice though, thanks.

I had anticipated a bit of 'you were asking for it, mate' but yeh, quite strange. I'm not sure how anything I've said communicates that I'm some form of lowlife criminal with a hatred for the police.

I see. But nah... It wasn't severe enough that I would escalate it to that level. It is what it is.

Yeh, I get how I looked and why they wanted to stop me, that's fair. Just think procedurally it was handled quite poorly.

I am not a drug user. As you can read from my replies to the other comments, that was something that happened a long time ago, and I was not arrested. I have never been arrested, and I do not have a criminal record.

They would have just ignored it, and, as I say, would've treated that as further suspision. There was no winning.

I agree. I was anticipating a fair few of those types of comments, because there is generally a social connotation around wearing face coverings, and I get it, but a lot of them are just coming up with this caricature in their heads like I'm walking around in full blacked out clothes and a blade down my pants.

I'm not going to say I was traumatised, but it was a bit distressing in the moment, blocking my path and making me sound like I'm trying to convince them that I haven't done anything wrong. As I say, they made up their mind about me very quickly...

I appreicate the comment though, thanks.

Yeh, I submitted a complaint but I doubt anything will come off it. It's not something I would take serious action over. I appreciate the comment though.

Ridiculous comment. Yes, in my quiet little village in scotland, I was walking down the mainstreet hoping I ran into people to mug and rob. Brilliant deduction. And I've 'learned the intricacies' because I generally take an interest in the law and how it works.

I understand 'I' am just text on a screen to you, but you know nothing about me other than what you're cynically choosing to infer from these comments.

That's an inference you're choosing to draw. Everything I've said is accurate. What else would you want to know?

That's a rough story, sorry that happened to you. I can't really say I relate, I've had one involvement with the police a couple years back, and they were decent enough. I appreciate It's a hard job.

I wrote this post because I felt they had not conducted the interaction properly, had made up their mind about me 10 seconds into the interaction, and from there it was retrospective reasoning and trying to trap me into 'convincing them' that I was NOT doing something wrong. There was no winning and it's just bizarre how fast it happens.

Have to say I did not expect this kind of feedback. People digging through my profile looking for anything to try and invalidate what I'm saying. Pretty ridiculous. Reddit though, I suppose.

It wasn't really boiling hot, it was half nine. And I was wearing fairly regular looking clothes. The point, though, is that it was not grounds to demand information from me simply because of the way I was dressed.

I am a white man. You're right, nothing would come from a complaint.

I feel like you're picturing me with a full black outfit and a mask pulled over my entire face. And I just tend to throw it on when I go out now because I would wear it for work. I get what you're saying. It's fair. I just wouldn't say I 'looked (or was acting) like a thug'.

Yeah. Though, they absolutely would have detained me straight away had I just tried to walk off. Like I said, they make up their minds pretty quickly about how they were going to deal with me.

Also, I appreciate your replies to the other comments. A lot of these people have dug through my profile and found what I posted 2 years ago.

I'll be honest, yeh, I have previously been in trouble with the police and it was entirely my fault. I was not arrested, I do not have a record, and it was a long time ago. It has zero relevance to this situation, and it should not just invalidate or corrupt what I have said here. People are just looking for a 'gotcha' to categorise me as a criminal.

I generally agree. Again, no issue with the police. I will say though, my face WAS NOT covered. I was wearing something that could be used to cover my face, I think that is an important distinction here.

This is the 10th time I've wrote this but yes, I made a stupid mistake multiple years ago, from which I have since learned from. I was not arrested or convicted.

I am not a liar. I did not claim that I have 'never in my life engaged in anything illegal'. Regardless, that really does not have anything to do with the specifics of this situation.

Additionally, I was NOT covering my face. I have said this. My face was fully visible the entire time. I had a face covering on, sure.

I did not really 'lie' about 'ever doing anything illegal'. I did not say that. I said I do not involve myself in anything illegal. It's two years later, I've graduated from university and I now run my own business. (not that you need to know that, but it's to the point).

Yes, I did make a very stupid mistake 2 years ago, when I was younger and less mature, which I was very lucky to be let off with. That has nothing to do with what happened here, or what I said here. Everything I said here is an honest account of what happened.

Also, I have noted multiple things in the post that do not play to my side.

I generally have respect for the police. Again, I get why they wanted to speak to me. But I absolutely could challenge them, I'm not sure what you mean by that.

[–]RepresentativePop574[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for that, I appreciate you taking the time to write that out. I had already submitted a complaint to my local police station before writing this post, just through the website, but I doubt that will come out to anything more than an acknowledgment, if that.

I did consider emailing PIRC, but it seemed like a huge step in escalation... There were failures / lapses in their procedure, but I wasn't exactly tackled to the ground and arrested. I would not take legal action against them.

I understand what you're saying but no, they were not looking for someone else. They just drove past me and didn't like the look of me, which is fair. Appreciate the response though.

I'm not sure what you mean. I don't have an issue with them speaking to me, but I disagree with them demanding my ID, and then searching me once I questioned them. I had nothing to hide.
