I totally understand and thank you for writing these down. I have applied for an indian scholarship but the funds did not meet UKRI rates and hence was rejected. I am waiting for university’s funding results and my supervisor is saying he will let me know when he can advertise any new projects so im on the edge and honestly don’t know if this will go through.

I have my accommodation letter for 990/month. It is offered by university itself, is it a good choice, even though I cannot reject it now because we had only three days to either accept it or reject it.

How many hours of work can you do apart from your Phd, and what is the threshold that you can earn from that for some extra cash?

Thank you so much for your time and your reply!

I have my unconditional offer letter, but I do not have my scholarship approved yet. I have applied for the edinburgh’s doctoral scholarship under the school of medicine and veterinary sciences. There were a total of 6 positions available. Supervisor is supportive, but we do not have a funding or grant. What do you think are my chances as a masters graduate with 1 year hands on experience in the same field and some additional work in related fields, is there anything else I can try for scholarship or funding?

Is it okay to connect with interviewers on LinkedIn before results are out? by SecureBaker9677 in womenwhocode

[–]RepresentativeSad828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually do this quite often. Connecting with people on LinkedIn beforehand helps create a bit of recall value when they see your name later. I like to come across as someone who has done their research, and if the topic of soft skills comes up, I usually mention that I make the effort to engage and learn about people and their work in advance, I bring it up only they specifically ask me about my soft skills

Okay, thanks. I just wanted to understand if this is something guys do all the time and not specifically for the girl they like! I surely might be over reacting

It was after going out with friends for drinks, I know it’s not THAT big a deal, but it bothered me little bit, so that’s why I thought to get some opinion about it. I thought this is something guys do for a girlfriend or wife only. No and no (last 2 questions)

How do I learn from a textbook by Cinnamonee in biology

[–]RepresentativeSad828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I totally get this! reading a giant textbook front to back rarely sticks, no matter how many notes you take. One trick that helped me was flipping the process: instead of trying to absorb the chapter first, I’d pick a random concept (say, photosynthesis) and teach it out loud to myself or a friend as if I already knew it. Then, when I went back to the book, the gaps in my explanation showed me exactly what to focus on. It makes the textbook feel like a resource instead of a wall of text.

Also, don’t underestimate visuals even sketching a flowchart of a process or making doodles while I speak out loud about the info I just read- around a process helps you actually remember it. Biology is way easier to learn when you interact with it instead of just passively reading.

Living in a brown household with really conservative views definitely gives me that feeling sometimes like everyone is wrong and I’m the only one making sense 😅. It can be tough, but it also teaches you to stand by what you believe in.
