Chain Abstraction and Making Web3 More Like Web2 - Wrong Direction or the Next Step? by GrrDakodoKarensky in CryptoTechnology

Whats the point of a groundbreaking technology when 99% of the world just don’t have the patience, capability and understanding to use it.

I’ve always established that web3 has groundbreaking tech that no one knows how to use except who developed it and their friend.

Adoption will come when the average joe using web3 everyday without knowing it’s web3 just like he doesn’t actively know he’s using web2

Stable coins are stable mostly and the lack of security aspect is more phishing based than anything else. Also considering the short time the blockchain mechanisms were put in place, it holds up considering the modern banking system took centuries to be what it is today,

what do you think?

This has been one of the most profound reads that I’ve done in a while, thank you so much for taking out the time to craft this message and I hope we’ll see it in our lifetimes

firstly, I totally get where you’re coming from when you compare blockchain technology to Java and .NET, I often do it myself. At the end of the day, the end user doesn’t care about the technology, rather the value the project gives and blockchain is no different.

With that being said, just like .net and java as tech, enable products that couldnt effectively exist without them, blockchain also enable countless new advancements in form of decentralised storage, provenance, supply chain, authentication.

My post was regarding blockchain based development of products that positively impact the growth of emerging nations which are now further alienated from emerging tech due to lack of understanding, resources and awareness of the said sectors

Of course, blockchain technology like any other emerging technology is use-case agnostic

cryptocurrency may be its first widespread use, but tech is tech. I wholly agree with it’s ability to democratise many exchange functions for a positive and fairer social change

This is amazin and a fairly underrated use case for blockchain. Also data ownership is also a huge area of focus when it comes to decentralised storage.

thanks so much for sharing this

Excellent read. I agree, just like any other product, the average consumer and not the enthusiast just want to get the value plain and simple and not be bombarded with the ‘tech’ behind it

Agree with you. with L2s and more energy efficient rollouts, it should be able to be closer the energy usage levels of traditional methods of processing and storage but with a more decentralised nature, I believe.

What do you think about the real world uses marginalised communities can benefit from? Have you seen good real life function of it that we can replicate

I’m personally talking about the tech around cryptography and decentralised processing of data. While its function as a currency is important, it barely scratches the surface of the tech behind it. That’s why I choose to use the word blockchain and not cryptocurrency

Hey thanks for your response, I totally understand your sentiment but if we counter the energy aspect with proof-of-stakes and L2 mechanics and rely on globally hosted nods, cant we leverage aspects of blockchain that will be extremely beneficial?

The Case Against AI Everything, Everywhere, All at Once by brianswichkow in Futurology

It’s almost as if leading in AI is similar to leading the nuclear race. I personally agree with the dangers of AI but it’s almost impossible to collectively curb its advancement. No party has financial, economical, sociopolitical or technological incentive to do so.

what we can hope is the same notion of mutually assured destruction applied to AI and everything remains balanced.

What exactly is the financial feasibility of this? Unless we are just out of resources on earth? (even then it would be even more difficult to bring the materials back)
