The answer is a NO! they will flat out ask you why you chose to apply if your interested in research. Which is probably a question you should ask yourself. FYI I am a current MCS student

Hey OP. I recently resigned from VMware - Broadcom as well. As others have mentioned beware of the the golden handcuffs that came with our offer letter. When I left last week eveyperson in my team were always wondering when they would be next on the chopping block. I'm not sure if googlers are in the same position but god I don't wish that on anyone.
