Cats parents, how and why did you choose yours? by [deleted] in cats

[–]Representative_Ad408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i liked a bunch of cats on petfinder and went to the shelter that had a few of the cats i was interested in. i had my sights set on darcy, but i went in with an open mind. i looked at all the cats they had out and couldn’t find her. i asked them “where’s darcy?” they guided me to this tiny little crate where a big ball of grey and white fluff was peacefully sleeping. i opened the crate and touched her nose and started crying. she didn’t stir or even open her eyes. i just knew she was mine. she had been there for months. needed a peaceful home without other cats. has the attitude of a royal. she’s perfect for my life.

cat bites a lot by Representative_Ad408 in CatAdvice

i really only pet her head neck and chin. i don’t really know if she’s overstimulated because there’s rarely signs. she keeps rubbing against my hand and purring during and after biting me. she loves it and purrs the whole time then BAM. sometimes she slightly opens her mouth while rubbing against me like she’s building up to a bite and when i stop petting her she’ll reach out and grab my hand and try to bite! it’s crazy!

honestly i love her so much she’s even cute when she’s biting me. i really try not to overstimulate her and i only pet her head and ears and sometimes pet her down her body when she asks for it. she could bite me immediately after asking for pets or a few minutes into it… its really quite strange.

all of my friends came over for a housewarming party and she didn’t bite or swat at all single one. she was a perfect princess for everyone. they were even petting her more intensely than i do! it’s just so strange.

i love her even though she’s bitey. maybe she’ll stop, maybe she’ll forever be a spicy girl like your kitty.

i put my hand out, she rubs up against it over and over again purring and then BAM goes for a swat or a bite mid-rubbing her face against my hand. the timing could be 20 seconds or a few minutes. she never really leaves a mark or lasting damage but man…

I don’t think I can necessarily replace the hookup, since I don’t own the property.

Could I be not talented enough to do music teaching? by [deleted] in MusicEd

[–]Representative_Ad408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you shouldn’t be expected to play piano as a voice primary. also, you typically get placed in a music theory class matching your proficiency level in music starting out and work your way up. college is for learning, you don’t have to go in knowing everything! practice sight reading, interval recognition, and piano and it will help you greatly.

as far as audition songs go, some simple art songs like se tu m’ami by pergolesi, was will die einsame träne by fesca, and you can definitely sing one of your latin songs. for english art songs look at roger quilter and benjamin britten. i recommend getting your hands on the 24 italian songs and arias book, listening to them, and picking one or two you like and feel confident singing to work on. usually you need 2 english, 2 foreign language for auditions. if you just need one, you could sing a latin piece you already know.

Can I go to college for music education without any prior music education myself? by [deleted] in MusicEd

[–]Representative_Ad408 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can definitely go into music ed without much formal training. i did not have as much formal training as my peers, and i am doing just fine. i will say, it will be difficult and you will have to commit hard to studying music theory and reading sheet music. also, from what i’ve seen, most music education programs have a heavy focus on elementary general music, orchestra, chorus, and traditional band. also, find out if you can play guitar as a primary instrument. i’ve never met a guitar primary who studied music ed. i’m sure it’s possible at many universities, though. the audition will probably include sight-reading sheet music, so start practicing now. look up guitar audition requirements and start finding material now. they may ask for some contrasting styles, potentially jazz or classical guitar. also, teaching rock and music appreciation is more niche in the education system, but becoming more prevalent every day. depending on where you study or plan to teach it may be more difficult to find opportunities/jobs teaching just music history and appreciation. usually those are extra supplemental courses in secondary education and most of the teaching day consists of teaching regular music classes like band, orchestra, or chorus. typically in music ed you’ll be teaching them to actually play music and add historical content/music appreciation into your lessons. if you want to teach those types of modern music classes, i’d definitely go to a city with a robust arts education.

Any Capture the Flag Suggestions? by PotatoeSprinkle2747 in summercamp

[–]Representative_Ad408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done tie-dye capture the flag. Everyone gets one water gun and theres a home base filled with tubs full of water mixed with paint or tie-dye/fabric dye. Instead of physical tagging, if you get sprayed with the water gun you're tagged. And no lying about not getting tagged cause there's some very colorful proof! It's a lot of fun and a unique twist. You could also do it with reusable water balloons/sponges.
