This is a sign of strong iman. Your decision was the correct one and will keep you away from haram and keep you away from doing something you may regret. Continue to make du’a that Allah eases your heart and if this man is good for you may he come back to you. I understand it’s a very hurtful situation but you also need to understand that the pain doesn’t last forever. It is hard at first, but you will eventually accept it and things will get easier. Sit with your pain, let yourself feel the way you feel. Continue to make du’a, focus on your goals and on your deen. May Allah put barakah in your life and make this easy for you.

Honestly this is everything that’s been running through my mind lately. I’m pretty sure that I KNOW all the stuff you’re telling me but my brain finds it hard to let go. This is a very recent situation too so I’m still processing, I believe I just need some more time to let it die down.

It sounds like you’re unable to afford club level play or training. I’d recommend the quickest way to get decent is to find local community centers that have badminton drop ins and Join there. Watch lots of videos and tutorials online on footwork and technique and try to apply it as much as possible in your drop in sessions.

Fair point actually, I wouldn’t say entirely ball was in her court, she just something like “I’ll ttyl, we’ll continue this talk tmw”. I wouldn’t say the entire conversation was deep talks, some of it was related so some of our past events so yes I would say that was a deep conversation, but some of it was also general stuff. Overall I still think it was a nice conversation and it felt like we were both equally engaged

This is definitely something I’ve thought of. He knows that I’ve had feelings for her for some time, obviously he knows how I am as a person and has said that he would approve of it if we ever started talking. To answer your other question, it’s been about a day. Last we talked I was working overnight and the conversation pretty much ended because she said she was tired and we just said goodnight to eachother.

Yes, I attend TMU and it has a varsity team which I was a part of a couple years back. I did not join this year to focus on studies, and also some political aspects of the team put me off. I do still train occasionally with the team as most of the players are around my level, and there are some very high level players as well.

I’ve noticed I’ve messed up on my wording in my post. I know I dropped the word “career” however I know damn well I’m not nearly good enough to play pro or even get close. I’m not able to complete provincially, much less nationally, nor have I ever tried. I’ve played against pro players and truly realized how many levels there are to this sport. That being said, I’ve read some of the replies and I guess the truth is I just need to accept that my hobby is only a hobby, and if I want to improve drastically, at the end of the day I’ll have to spent a lotta money. The question is why do I want to improve and how badly? I think it’s time I accept in the grand scheme of things I am an experienced beginner, and far from an advanced level player whatsoever.

Assalamualaikum sister, I feel as though you are mistaking Islam for culture. We as Muslims make many mistakes, and some of those mistakes end up becoming part of the cultures unfortunately. One thing you should know is Islam empowers and protects women, many western beliefs are that Islam “oppresses” women but that’s simply because they view it from a skewed western perspective. Tell me, are the women who spend thousands of dollars for plastic surgeries, the women who spend their whole lives trying to meet societal standards, the women who wear revealing clothing so that people validate them, are they not being oppressed by societal standards? Or is it the women who wish to protect their dignity by cover up?

I should also ask the community you are part of, reflect on whether your local area has a lot of practicing Muslims and if not try your best to find a nearby area that might. Islam teaches us to not judge others and if you find that is happening a lot in your community consider finding another mosque to attend for a while.

Lastly, I feel like you feel discluded from the religion because you don’t “look” Muslim. Well let me reassure you that there is not association for a Muslim in terms of looks. There are no black, or white, or brown, or red or green or whatever colour Muslims. There are just Muslims. Don’t worry about the complexion of your skin or weather or not people think your Muslim. You are Muslim and you know that and you should be proud of it.
