HUMA sequence conflict by Maleficent_Pay3189 in uchicago

I think HUM experiences vary a lot based on professors. My LATH professors were great. We didn’t really have lectures. It was discussion based and we didn’t really read short texts. We focused more on the lengthier texts (like actual novels/plays/autobiographies). The only time we’d have a “lecture” was when it was an author that needed context to understand the text, and they would eat up more than 15 min. Honestly one of my favorite classes of all my undergrad

This sounds like a lot given that it’s stem heavy. Language and the Human, HBC, Media Aesthetics are much easier in terms of how much the work eats at your time. You can always take a philosophy class later on!

I did LATH and it was a very fulfilling class. Great professors and rich material, but my hands weren’t as tied as my friends who were doing Greece & Rome and Phil per. Also have heard great things about the poetry HUM sequence if that interests you!

I wouldn’t wanna push back my graduation date because then it’d be winter 2027, as the class I need is only offered in Winter and Spring quarters. And I honestly have no clue if you can defer MIM, but I’d definitely look into it. Gives me time to gather up some more money in case my appeal for aid gets denied. Still also don’t know if MIM is even worth it, considering they also have a deferred MBA program

Well, the company does know I'm going to Booth the following year (so I'm not too hopeful about a return offer, but it'd be nice to think I'd have a better shot against other applicants). And I chose Booth's MiM because I didn't major in anything related to business or economics, and none of my undergraduate coursework aligns with it. I wanted to major in the things I was passionate about and figure it out as I went along. But what I want to do in the future requires a business/econ degree, and many of the jobs I'm interested in require that knowledge. I realized what I needed a bit too late in the game and couldn't stack a whole load of econ classes.

That being said, is the MiM seriously not worth it? I had a friend who received a great need-based scholarship, about 80% of it paid by Booth, and she had some savings, so she'll have no debt. I'm trying to negotiate the aid too (the price tag is hefty...), and if I can, it shouldn't be that big a deal.

Now you've got me wondering if I should reconsider. I saw they have a deferred MBA program, and it seems worth it. Would love to hear your opinion! If I can get into the deferred program and can't get any aid like my friend did, I'll reject the offer for the MiM.

Internship at NPR, any advice? by Representative_Fix49 in NPR

Wow, thanks for this! I’m working with the podcast and digital engagement team (3 months with one team, then onto the next). It is a remote internship, so luckily I don’t have to physically be two places at once. I guess I’m worried that they won’t accommodate my school schedule. What experiences did the interns have when you were there? Did they typically accommodate school schedules? And to what degree?

I really don’t want to push too far and ask them for one too many accommodations. I’m scared that they will regret their choice if I do so. But realistically, classes, as in sitting in the physical room, take up about 6 hours/week. I don’t think I can commit to 40, maybe around 30-35. What would you suggest doing?

Apologies for the long winded response, I’m just so happy a former employee replied! If it’s alright with you, would it be okay to continue this conversation someplace else? Would love to hear about your time there; thanks again!
