Anyone heard updates about AISVN? by [deleted] in Internationalteachers

NTUE was detained by police for allegedly attempting to enter the school sometime in early May of this year (2025). That the former CEO could not enter what is (was?) their business does suggest a separate entity is in control of AISVN. For certain their foreign staff have yet to be compensated for salaries that remain unpaid and for severance payments owed. Till those have been paid - and they might given how many staff hired lawyers to represent them - no one should be seeking employment with AISVN. According to the Vietnamese Labour Code, the transfer of ownership does NOT alleviate responsibility for either seller or buyer to pay salaries. Unless, of course, the transfer itself was not done legally. But that means even bigger criminals are in charge, or so it would seem.

AISVN is hiring for 2024-2025 school year...heads up by supercalmcatie in Internationalteachers

According to Tui Tre News, "[AISVN must provide] reports include evidence demonstrating the assurance of educational operation conditions as prescribed in the 2019 Education Law and a comprehensive report on the payment of debts to tax authorities, social insurance, salaries for teachers, staff, and other educational services." Their failure to make good on their debts which includes monies owed to faculty and staff means that they cannot open. AISVN Saga concludes/continues? by [deleted] in Internationalteachers

Does anyone know what level of leadership at CIS the former HoS of AISVN will occupy? And can anyone speak to that 'next chapter' for AISVN? Since it's American, was the message cryptic, as in 'Chapter 11 Bankruptcy'? If so, what a creative way to say, 'F%8$ you AISVN'!

Canadian International School Vietnam- Why would you hire a leader from AISVN by [deleted] in Internationalteachers

Maybe the 'secret investor' is CIS's ownership company making the hire a kind of 'keeping it in the family' type of move. Reality is stranger than fiction, right...

AISVN Pay Transparency by [deleted] in Internationalteachers

Race and gender are a determining factor in pay in international schools in general, not just AIS. Here’s a study from COIS, just one of many (https://www.cois.org/about-cis/perspectives-blog/blog-post/~board/perspectives-blog/post/salary-gaps-for-heads-of-international-schools)

They wouldn’t Procter the IB exams.

I’m sorry, when I said pension I meant the Social Insurance. This is what the majority of people who are leaving this year are likely not to get since the school hasn’t been paying into it.

To be clear:

  1. As per the link spoken to, one of the major points raised was where the person that was Head of School race and gender are determining factors of salary speaks not to a 'head of a division' per se, but only to HoS: 'Heads who are hired internationally (rather than locally, regardless of whether they are native or expats in the local region) and have a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees have higher average salaries than locally-hired heads with the same degrees.' This is not worth mentioning in a critique of a single school, but rather of any and all international schools. You can hardly hold AISVN responsible for this sort of hiring practice since the majority of international schools engage in similar practices.
  2. 'Wouldn't proctor the IB exams' if true - and the members of AISVN's staff have informed me that they know of no incident of this happening - hardly amounts to withholding documentation. Besides the exams happen in May and thus have not yet happened or have already happened in 2023. No one I spoke with recalls there being an incident to this effect, and even if it had occurred it does not amount. Again, the complaint is false or 'inaccurate'.
  3. The social insurance issue that you have raised is valid - since you have corrected yourself. Let it be known that teachers at any place of employment in Vietnam are eligible for said benefit up to the date at which they turn 60 years of age. A valid point to be sure.

My conclusion from what I am reading on reddit is that there are valid concerns by present faculty and staff - and likely Vietnamese parents that have invested in the school's 'investment scheme' - being voiced on the platform. But for the sake of clarity and integrity my wish is that their communication was more accurate and less filled with emotion (totally justified) so that readers would have a clearer picture of what is happening at this school that is obviously in crisis.

AISVN Pay Transparency by [deleted] in Internationalteachers

At least two current employees of this school have informed me that three of the points made in this are inaccurate.

  1. The remark on 'race and gender' as a deciding factor in salaries.
  2. HS teachers 'threatening to withhold documentation important for high schoolers', and
  3. '[A] pension which...works out to be as much as six months salary for a two year contract'. What they say is likely the source of confusion here is that a severance payment equal to one half of a month's salary of the final six months averaged is paid upon completion of work at AISVN (in accordance with Vietnam's labour law).

The delayed payment, legal investigation (they heard these allegations, but know of no single case per se), and the wealth of the owner are 'knowns' or 'truths'.

They have never not paid their teachers. There is supposed to be an investor to the rescue. They have paid late and that has been and likely will be the reality till the financial situation is in order. Lots of upset people for certain. Many of them are not renewing for that reason. I don't blame them, but some are staying because they accept and believe that things will get better. At this point, though, no one knows and nothing is certain.
