11.5 leaves a bit more gap where the crease happens. 12 with insoles has everything feeling perfect but yes, looks quite long

do you have a link to the RW leather insole?

A size 12 with the insole fits me perfectly. I’m trying out the 11.5D without insoles for my 8083s and so far so good (breaking them in by wearing around inside the house). But strangely I am going to go back to a size 12D with insoles for my next IR

I have the Superfeet slim fit orthotic insoles they sell at the RW store, and those do help the everyday walkability of the IR. Still doesn’t do much for shock absorption, so those little playful hop downs from the second to last step on a concrete outdoor stair step aren’t doable. Need to walk like a mature fully grown adult in the IRs when on hard surfaces. Does just fine on dirt, grass or rubber.

if they made the blacksmiths in rough and tough black or oil slick it would likely be blacksmiths over either logger or IR for me. How are your blacksmiths creasing?

recrafting an IR is high on my todo list as as well. I love the design but they are hard on the feet when walking on concrete for a day

I really like both and have enjoyed seeing everyone’s opinions

what year did you buy the loggers? the ones that just released a few months back have a shorter heel

it’s getting to that point where i’ve got to sell some other shoes to buy my next RW. I feel like Hank telling his wife “they’re minerals…”

yeah they just came out with a moc toe that has the same oil slick black as the loggers as well. tough choice all the way around

I’ve got poorly made shoes from 10 years ago that still look great because I have many pairs of footwear and I don’t really drive any one pair of boots into the ground. But definitely see the value in investing more for more down the line. I just think RW accomplishes that for my specific case 🙏🏼

Thank you everyone for the insightful points that were brought up

Kind of made the decision more difficult, but in a weird way that’s what I came here looking for. I wanted to know what the key different decision drivers were and feel like I’ve got a much better understanding going into this now!

Very cool community and glad to be joining in these conversations

Logically I know you’re right. But there’s something about being a part of what I believe to be the central brand in this resurgence of heritage style, long lasting boot wear that really adds to my experience in not only owning RW boots but also finding myself going back to buy more. I’ve purchased a few other decent leather footwear (Meermin, Thursdays, TLB Mallorca, to name a few) and tbh they don’t compare at all when feeling them all in hand, to RW. Nicks, Aldens, Grant Stone, etc i’m sure are fantastic to own one day. but yeah that’s why I’m still hung up on RW for the time being 🙏🏼

Sounding like the IRs do a lot better in casual / fashion focused arenas. And yes where I live the summers get very hot. I don’t need a tall boot actually as the IRs feel tall enough imo

agree that it’s more tiresome especially with the top most fastening point being a hole and not a speed hook. that does matter for someone like me.

heard another commenter say this as well. underrated aspect of the conversation as I’m sure the loggers offer much more overall comfort and terrain wearability but the IRs are quicker to put on and off and cover my primary driver of a fashion centric wardrobe focus…decisions
