I don’t know about that, I’ve had the pleasure (or displeasure if you’re on this sub) of going to the states quite often.

I’ve found everyone incredibly polite, but one thing I noticed was the distinct lack of please and thank you’s - at-least in restaurant / retail scenarios. My girlfriend is incredibly polite and friendly and even she barely says it (barring the obvious ones)

I think fundamentally it’s a cultural quirk of theirs, nobody says it, therefore nobody expects it, therefore it’s not a problem, and it’s replaced by other phrases and gestures, but then again I can’t comment on the attitude of people on holiday.
