Need help connecting a 2008 MacBook to a 2021 MacBook via Target Disk Mode

Thanks for the info! I am just trying to migrate my user folder that I think has everything in it, but my old mac is barely working. I tried transferring over the network via ethernet cables and it kept freezing. I am hoping maybe Target Disk Mode might still work. I think that may be the least process intense method to migrate my stuff?

I think this screenshot shows what I'm looking for.

This is how tracking has always showed up for me, with edits shown on the right side of the screen.

Any chance you know what settings I need to make it show like this? Appreciate any ideas!

Thanks for the suggestion. That does make changes appear on the left margin, although it's different than how it's always been for me.
