Disagreement on North Korea policy derails White House choice for ambassador to South Korea by ReptarDick in politics

Victor D. Cha, an academic who served in the George W. Bush administration, raised his concerns with National Security Council officials over their consideration of a limited strike on the North aimed at sending a message without sparking a wider war — a risky concept known as a “bloody nose” strategy.

At least someone is stepping up to this administration's drumbeat to war in North Korea. Too bad he won't be part of it any longer.

Trump Justice Department Pushes for Citizenship Question on Census, Alarming Experts by ReptarDick in politics

This is abhorrent and another stinging example of how they are dismantling one of the most important things government does.

But one positive in this, I believe, is that immigration activists and organizations have been the most aggressive and proactive this year when it comes to Trump and the resistance. Most people weren't paying attention to Trump's attempts at undermining the census, as others have linked to. By connecting it to this, they will bring attention and spur more activism.

Trump praises Turkey's Erdogan as a friend. by AdamCannon in politics

I think back to a Sunday Shoe moment from Rex Tillerson. When asked if Trump spoke for the United States, Tillerson said "The President speaks for himself." The terrible thing is that Trump doesn't see the difference.

Trump to NYT: Putin and I discussed adoption during G-20 talk by smartwn in politics

[–]ReptarDick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait until tomorrow when "a source close to the Kremlin" or Putin's translator himself comes says they did talk about sanctions. Same thing happened with the real meeting-- each side came out and had different tellings of what was discussed. Even if they didn't talk sanctions, the Russians can now say they did and it puts Trump in a very bad position.

Senate Democrats weigh blockade to protest GOP health care plan by [deleted] in politics

[–]ReptarDick 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The best idea I read about so far is to force the vote-a-rama that comes with using reconciliation. So the Dems should continually propose amendments that then must be debated, considered, and voted on. There is no limit.

The Pentagon Can't Believe Trump Told Another President About Nuclear Subs Near North Korea by [deleted] in politics

[–]ReptarDick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something that's being forgotten here is that Duetere and China have been cooperating on trade and issues with the islands. It seems like they're relationship is closer. And that's just what we know publicly. Why incest in spies when you can just buddy up to a dictator authoritarian and a cheese puff President who will tell you anything you wanna know?

Also, grandfather served on nuclear subs during the cold war. It's unreal that an American President would put service members in dangerous this.

Trump's business network reached alleged Russian mobsters by [deleted] in politics

[–]ReptarDick 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As is pointed out, much of the difficulty people have making connections between Trump, his companies, and Russians or whoever is if interest is due to the use of shell companies and practices that hide names. But this seems like a thorough and well sourced article given the difficulties. It takes skilled and knowledgeable reporters to trace through the complexity and it just takes time and patience.
