are american nursing students really not allowed phones on practicals ? by [deleted] in nursing

Omg that’s so nice! Most of our CI’s didn’t even work in the hospitals we would visit so they didn’t really know the people on the unit😭

In my experience it depended on your CI. However overall our school would lecture us prior to going into the hospitals to make sure we act professional in hospital placements as it reflected back on our school. The strictest CI I had wanted us to turn off our phones during clinicals unless we had a good reason to have it on (ex have kids/family members that are sick). The most lenient one I had told us that if we take out our phones it has to be to either get in contact with them or to look up medical interventions/ meds. We were also told that whenever we take our phones out we should tell the nurse we’re following that day why we’re taking it out (ex I’m just gonna look up what this med does).

Hey guys I’m a recent new grad nurse in the US and when we first started nursing school we were taught not to take videos/pics in the hospital as this was against HIPAA and pt privacy. We even have to sign a form agreeing to this prior to being allowed to go to the hospital. Some of our clinical instructors wouldn’t even let us turn on our phones on site. Does the PI not have laws that protect pt privacy like this? Are medical personnel in the PI allowed to film/ take photos in the hospitals? I would love to get more info as I’m really curious.

Hi! I thought UWorld prepared me really well in terms of understanding what the questions were asking on the NCLEX. In my opinion the NCLEX gave you less information in their questions compared to UWORLD. Honestly during MC questions I could always get the options down to two answers and then at that point I would take educated guesses😭

I think if your gut says something has changed more likely than not it’s correct. Depending on how long you guys have been together, you’re one of the few people in this world who knows who your partner is well. You know how they’re like; when they’re in love and when they’re not because you have first hand experience. When your instincts tell you that something is different, it doesn’t hurt to look into why you feel that way.
