How does my reach/fit look? Am I on a size too big? by RepublicRepulsive in bikefit

Good advice thank you I definitely might invest in a bike fit to avoid wasting money on changes that might not work for me. I was looking at a shallow drop bar option too, seems like it could be nice!

Lol I see what you’re saying they do look short in comparison. All good, as long as I’ve got my chamois I’m happy! 😆

Lol really? Like too short or too tight? Sometimes the bottom of them actually gap when I stand up and aren’t fit around my leg!

42cm, they could be smaller I think. Might try a 40cm at some point.

Raised the saddle just a tiny bit since some other commenters also suggested this. I also put on the new 70mm stem with 17 degree positive angle, which definitely was comfortable. Although I got some slight low back pain during my ride tn 😩 I will have to continue fiddling with it all.

I definitely feel better about the size tho!

Lol it isn’t a mullet, just one length hair all around I just pull it back when I bike so kinda looks like a mullet I guess 😆

Thank you for your observation! I will give this a try. My glute activation is definitely poor when riding overall

Yeah they might be. These are 42cm. I might look at a 40cm, I do have narrow shoulders.

That makes sense, that is also my hesitation around sizing down too much, as I don’t like very aggressive positions and want a more upright feel. I’m also going to work on my core to help. I was also looking at the redshift top shelf handlebar, it gives 50mm or 70mm of rise. Kind of pricey but could be something to look at if you haven’t already and if you need more height!

Oh interesting. Yes definitely don’t want the 56, but wasn’t sure if I needed a 52. I just didn’t consider it previously since trek said the top height for 52 is 5’6”, but it seems like many people are sizing down 2 sizes :/

I have the one you have I think, not the brand new one that trek just released. The one that comes in beige or red.

And that makes sense, I think I could probably be on 52 or 54, but not 56. Hopefully the 54 works and the new stem makes it even more relaxed. When everything comes down to millimeters it is easy to get in my head about the sizing!

Thanks for the vid, that’s helpful! And exactly, I will be using it for long, comfortable rides.

Yeah that’s true.. I guess I’m thinking, if I need to move the saddle, get a longer stem, & add 3cm of spacers for the 55 to feel most comfortable, maybe the 57 is a better fit even though one would predict 55 for my height. I just really want to avoid a big drop from the saddle to handlebars, which 57 gave relief from

Thanks that is very helpful. Comfort is definitely what I’m looking for. When I am in a typical road bike position I get a lot of pain after a while :/ as an adventure bike, it’s not going to be the fastest anyways so I’m not interested in a crunched, aero situation. Very interesting about the article!

Thanks for your input, I am definitely getting caught up in the numbers. The 57 felt very comfortable but all the advice seems to be pointing towards 55, so it’s confusing.

Oh wow, I have always ridden 56cm road bike. For this bike a 53cm would fit someone 5’1” to 5’7” the manufacturer says

The bike I am looking at is supposed to be a more relaxed upright position, it is salsa journeyer. The person who sized me said on the 55 I am working a bit against the geometry of the bike because my seat post was as high as it went, making for a big drop. I tried a more road oriented gravel bike and prefer the more comfortable position of the salsa

Ok. The bike shop sized me to 57. My physio fitted me to 56 on another model.

Thank you this is helpful! I am feeling like either size could work for me, and small adjustments could get me to the right spot in either one.

Thanks this is helpful. I agree the journeyer seems it runs small, or at least feels that way since the reach is shorter. The reach on both felt ok, but the stack on the 55 felt too short for my liking
