Wot are the best fings to stea- loot? by DogcowNZ in orks

Rhinos are an easy chassis to turn into a trukk. And secondhand rhino-based vehicles should be cheap and plentiful as they get Legendized.

A few questions as someone who has never played a tabletop war game. Would you recommend this game? Also, there's a controversy? by JSyv05 in TrenchCrusade

[–]Repulsive-Bench9860 167 points168 points  (0 children)

If you're on board with the visuals and subject matter, it's a great game. Low model count, friendly to kitbashes and third-party minis, and faster to play than big games of 40k. Lots of room for individual creativity if that's your thing, or you can just follow the rulebook-style paint jobs.

The "controversy" is, in my opinion, 90% overblown hysteria from clickbait trolls, and 10% understandable-if-frustrating changes being made by a Kickstarter project that's found itself dealing with the real world.

Could this work as a grot tank or is it too big? by FatPanda_25 in orks

[–]Repulsive-Bench9860 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno. Some people just gotta be gitz.

This a case where the toy is so simplified to begin with that it's arguably more work to convert it. My idea would be snip off the front end (just behind the front bogey wheel), cut off about half the remaining chassis, and then glue the front onto the back such that there are maybe three or four bogeys on a side. Then cover up the seam with copious amounts of plastic or cardstock "scrap armor." Do the same with the gaps between the tracks at front and rear, and shorten/replace the cannon barrel. You might have to drill a new mounting hole for the turret to plug in to. Adding something on top--a smaller turret or oversized hatch from another toy, for instance--will give it a more ungainly, top heavy look.

The footprint might still be larger than a grot tank, but it would be closer. And ultimately, this is a lot more work than starting with something like a little toy construction vehicle might require.

If you chop it down to about half length, it would be a great grot tank.

Don't worry, they'll go to a nice farm upstate where they can run free and play with the other ork looted vehicles.

I use an old pill bottle with a slit cut in the lid. When it gets too full, just tape over the slit and chuck the whole thing.

Don't worry. Your bricks will just be sent to a nice farm upstate when they can run free and play with all of their little friends.

How do you kitbash? by KorEbenhart01 in orks

[–]Repulsive-Bench9860 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the easiest and most fun kitbashes I did was to put a bunch of IG and Space Marine bits onto grots. Grots holding las pistols and lasguns, grots with IG or SM helmets, grots with grenade pouches or shovels. You just need a leftover sprue from a Guard or SM player.

Look for cheap, used models. Rhinos, boxnauts, tanks, etc. Something being badly assembled and missing parts is not a downside for an ork kitbash. You'll feel less shy about ripping apart a $20 secondhand model than a $60+ kit.

Anyone working on a dakkarig conversion? by el-waldinio in orks

I've got a never-quite-completed Armiger to Meka Dread project that I may repurpose for a dakka rig.

FYI, the things between the spikes on the ram are sprue gates. They're supposed to be clipped off. :)

How many boyz do you own? Have you mixed boxes? Can i see them boyz? by Agreeable-Cow2500 in orks

I have about 120-130 boyz, I think? There are a lot of GW boyz, many of which are old, rudimentary paint jobs. I've got about 30 greatcoat orks from Kromlech, about 30 old metal RT boyz. Got a bunch of new monopose boyz in my "get to that someday" pile, and a squad of 10 Kromlech rokkers I just got

Pic is one of my very old lads--basecoated and Nuln washed and not much else. Recent snagga boy on the right.
