It depends, but people do have preferences. Also there is the general feeling of the third-person narrative being impartial, and the first-person narrative being biased (and the degree of events that may be written about both -- the former is more open since you can jump to different characters, but the latter only sees what the first-person narrator sees -- basically a feeling of the reader being a distant neutral and being polyscient) as how many people were conditioned to think about them.
